Tournament Talk. Fished the third leg of the Big Pond Brawl series this morning. The original plan was to run 23mi up to Milwaukee but after getting out of the harbor, that plan changed in a quick hurry. I decided to start where I was Tuesday morning in 60fow out of Racine. It wasn’t for the lack of marking fish but none wanted to cooperate for the first hour in a half. After working north Nate, Bob and I started picking away at them. Bite numbers were good but landing average was not. We had well over a dozen bites and landed 6 of them with one being the biggest king of the season tipping the scales at 24.78lbs that cracked a wire diver with a flasher fly, which Bob did an excellent job reeling in. Thank goodness for the double extension on my salmon net as the fly pulled as it hit the net. It was truly sickening the amount of 10+lb kings we missed. Just 3 would have secured a win. But out of 5 fish we had 58lbs which put us in 13 or 14th place. The big one was good enough to secure big fish of the tournament. If my calculations are right, Walter has nudged me into second place for the small boat series 258 to 252. Needless to say we’re going to need a high placing at the final to make a run at the title.

Had the pleasure of getting Andrew and crew out Monday evening. We started off shore where they found a 12lb king, nice steelhead, 3 lakers and missed a couple more. At sunset I ripped rods and ran back into shallower water where I had good fishing solo in the morning and my goodness it did not take long for the kings to come play. With only two riggers and two wire divers out, I could not keep them in the water for 30mins where they went another 6 for 9 with 18&17lbers were big. Thanks for coming out guys!

Salmon A Rama recap. A little late I know. The start of the tournament was nothing short of a w**d through small fish fest. Fishing was stellar until Wednesday when we had a blow day and it scattered everything but luckily the night before I was able to find a brown to fill out the master angler side. The last Saturday I spent the morning w**ding through lakers until I was able to find an 18lber which had me in the money until Sunday morning till I got bumped 4 spots out of the money (ouch) but overall I can’t complain with the final results. Thank you to my girlfriend for dealing with me and Nate and Kim for coming out.

Tournament/derby recap- last week I was sitting in second for the ultimate salmon derby but at the last couple of days someone from Michigan bumped me into third by a couple of ounces. Friday I decided to jump in the GLSF derby out of Port Washington. Knowing the kings I was on wouldn’t have done much, I decided to target lakers. I put a healthy 15lber up day one then a 18.42lber day two which sat in 5th place all the way till day three when I was knocked down to 10th which I’m not mad at especially with over 600 fish entered. With that and 49th paid for my tickets and gas for the week. I’m still questioning why I kicked back a 16.5lb which would have been another prize fish. Congrats to silent screamer for brining in a last minute 23lb king and sacking up a pile of winnings. And congrats to the guy who brought in a massive 26lb brown trout. I haven’t seen one of those in a very long time. Time to do some maintenance on the boat, rig some rods and get ready for Salmon a Rama!

Got out Tuesday with RJ first looking for kings then lakers for the . After the first two areas only produced cohos and some nice rainbows we went out laker fishing where RJ stuck a chunk 17.5lber. We then pulled lines, put the skeeter on plane and ran in to target kings again. With a nasty storm moving in my 10cl fired with a 11.5lb king. Once the rods started humming with all the static electricity we pulled lines and called it a day. Recap of day 1 for the GLSF derby will be coming up.

Well a blind squirrel found a nut this morning. Decided to take advantage of the perfect winds to run offshore and look for a tubby lake trout for the . It didn’t take long before a 12lber cracked the rigger. After picking through and scanning off a handful of smaller trout, this good year blimp ate. Official weight was 21.42lb to bump me up to second place and missing the lead by half a pound. What a great way to head into the weekend.

Had a weekend full of great groups. There were no shortage of bites both Saturday and Sunday but couldn’t keep them buttoned up but they still took home a pile of filets. Yesterday I decided to go in a completely different direction and it really paid off with over a dozen king bites and heather got 4 onboard along with a coho. I feel like a broken record saying we have some weather coming in but next weekend is looking great!

54lbs 4th place, big jump from 11th to 5th for the main series (sneaky suspicion we are leading the small boat series). Two more legs left and going to have to be dialed in to make a run at it.
