A resort can have beautiful photos, great reviews, and an attractive price and still not be the right fit for you.

One thing I've learned after all these years of planning vacations is that the details matter. Resort size, atmosphere, room location, and even how you prefer to spend your days can make a difference in your experience.

That's why I don't start with the resort. I start with you.

You have 6 nights in the Caribbean. Which one are you choosing?

A: Give me the resort. Great restaurants, pools, entertainment and plenty to do. I'm perfectly happy spending most of my vacation right there.

B: Give me a nice place to stay, but I'm getting OUT. I want good food, a beautiful beach and time to explore the island and experience the destination.

I'm definitely B with a little bit of A. I want a great place to come back to, but I didn't fly all the way to the Caribbean not to see where I am. 😂

Once your deposit is paid, there can still be a lot that happens between “we’re booked!” and departure day.

Final payment dates. Travel documents. Flight details. Resort information. Cruise check-in. Dining or activity reservations. What to pack. What to expect when you arrive.

Those aren’t things I expect my clients to keep track of on their own.

I stay in touch with reminders and information specific to their trip, so they know what needs their attention and when.

Working with a travel advisor shouldn’t end once the reservation is made.

Booking the trip is one part of what I do. Guiding you through it is the other.

Same resort. Same vacation. Two very different perspectives.

Two of my clients recently traveled to Punta Cana together to celebrate a 70th birthday. They shared the same resort and the same vacation, but came home with very different thoughts about whether they'd stay there again.

One enjoyed the trip but wouldn't choose the resort again. She prefers something smaller and quieter and would have liked to experience more of the Dominican Republic.

The other said she'd absolutely go back. She loved the restaurants, enjoyed relaxing with her cousin and said she'd simply be better prepared for all the walking next time.

That's why I don't believe there's one “best” resort for everyone.

A beautiful resort with great reviews can still be the wrong fit for you.

The better question is: How do you want your vacation to feel?

Quiet or lively?
Smaller and intimate or lots to do?
Mostly resort time or getting out and experiencing the destination?

The right trip is the one that feels right for you.

Now THIS is the kind of room where you might suddenly decide you don’t need to leave the resort.

While touring Impression Moxché by Secrets, I stepped inside the Panoramic Suite Ocean Front, and the view immediately got my attention.

Picture starting your morning with the Caribbean in front of you, having plenty of space to settle in, and coming back after dinner to a suite that feels like part of the vacation, not simply where you sleep.

For a honeymoon, anniversary or milestone getaway, this is the kind of room I’d consider when having a special space to come back to matters just as much as the resort itself.

It’s also why I pay attention to room categories when I tour resorts. The least expensive room and the right room for your trip aren’t always the same thing.

Some resorts are beautiful. Others feel different the moment you step inside.

While in Riviera Maya, I had the opportunity to tour Impression Moxché by Secrets, and this one definitely stood out.

If your idea of a couples getaway is having quieter spaces to retreat to, your own pools and restaurants, and a rooftop overlooking the Caribbean, while still being able to enjoy all the dining, entertainment and amenities of a larger resort, Impression gives you both.

I could see this being especially memorable for a honeymoon, anniversary or milestone celebration when you want the resort itself to feel like part of what you're celebrating.

The question is whether Secrets Moxché or Impression Moxché, and which room category, gives you the experience you're looking for. Having walked both, that's something I can help you figure out.
