Outfitting & guiding of many kinds is an incredible part of Patagonia’s rural economic development each year. Hunting, cycling, birding, equestrian; there are a number of small and large organizations utilizing the direct public lands access Patagonia has to offer on a seasonal basis.

We’re grateful to work with a handful of these organizations, housing their guests as they enjoy the San Rafael Valley, Santa Rita Mountains, and Canelo Hills to name a few.

Let’s remind ourselves as visitors across this landscape that we must respect private land boundaries, follow leave no trace principles & local traffic rules, support local businesses when shopping & utilize local/regional government entity websites when needing detailed information regarding permits, approvals, or rules to abide by. These steps help ensure the future of a vibrant outdoor recreational tourism industry across Arizona’s Borderlands.

With the addition of 2 queen sofa beds, our Straw Bale House comfortably sleeps up to 6 people. These sofa beds are legit y’all, not those old weird ones filled with springs and bars right under your spine either. You’ll get a great nights sleep! 🛌

The Straw Bale has 1 King, 1 Queen & 2 Queen sofa beds. Sofa bed sheets and comforter are located inside the storage compartment under the coach seat.

Beautiful weather in Patagonia these days. Plan ahead for Easter weekend, Earth Day & Mother’s Day. ⚡️✨🌹

The Nook. We love this little space in the Straw Bale house. It’s an extra sleeping area with a queen sofa bed. A super comfortable lounge area with a smart tv, or an additional changing room if friends are visiting before a ride or outdoor activity.

March, April and May are incredible times of the year to visit Patagonia or just stay a while. Reservations at the link in our bio.

Our Story

Hello!

Kristi Mohn, Tim Mohn, Heidi Rentz, and Zander Ault here. We are the 4 wild souls behind The Gravel House. Kristi and Tim live in Emporia, Kansas, while Heidi and Zander call Tucson, Arizona home. The four of us are passionate endurance cyclists. Kristi and Tim own a bike shop and real-estate company in Emporia, Kansas. They recently purchased a Sync Van and travel the country in seek of long, dusty gravel roads and coolers filled with cold beers! Heidi and Zander own and operate a small cycling touring company, The Cyclist's Menu, and the Spirit World 100 gravel cycling event based in Patagonia, Arizona. Our commonalities are simple; outdoor recreation, soulful food and strong friendships. It is these loves of life that have allowed our paths to cross. The Gravel House is a physical, emotional and spiritual expression of this collaboration. We can't wait for you to experience it.

The Gravel House isn't just a cycling destination. The gravel roads that dot this widespread, vital ecosystem are the very roads that have allowed Kristi, Tim, Heidi and Zander to fall in love with this area. They define the true essence of our Nation's remaining wild, raw country. These friends have collectively created this destination experience for you to enjoy in whatever way you see fit.

And as much as our foursome loves the gravel cycling around here, we also really appreciate the hiking, tail running, birding, photography and relaxation that the quiet town of Patagonia provides. We hope that your stay will inspire you to a new place in your own soul.
