I spent about FOUR HOURS at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, and yes…I read almost ALL of the captions and watched ALL the video vignettes. 😂📚🎥

There is A LOT to see, and I took my time exploring the exhibits and interactive experiences. I even stopped for dinner at the Tafari restaurant while I was there. 🍽️

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing a much more detailed review of the exhibits, interactive experiences, and my overall thoughts on the visit.

While I was in Fort Worth, I had to check out the Stockyards! 🤠

I took the official tour of the Stockyards to learn more about its history, the cattle industry, and the people who helped shape this iconic place. Then I took a VERY different kind of tour—a ghost tour 👻—to learn about the paranormal and supernatural activity that’s said to haunt the Stockyards.

Two tours, two completely different perspectives, and I genuinely enjoyed BOTH! History during the day and ghosts after dark? I’m here for it. 😂👻🤠

I also liked the cattle drive reenactment at the Forth Worth stock exchange that included Black, Latin and women cattle drivers who were all traditionally part of the cattle driving industry, but are often left out of the cowboy lore.

This is part II of my visit to the Fort Worth stock yards. It was incredible to learn about all of the people of African descent that were involved in the cattle business. In particular Cowboy Nat Love who herded cattle on the Chisholm trail from Texas to Kansas.

📢 CASE UPDATE: The Fight to Preserve Black History Continues

There has been another development in our lawsuit challenging the removal of the slavery exhibits at Philadelphia’s President’s House.

The Third Circuit denied the City of Philadelphia’s motion for an en banc rehearing before the entire Third Circuit, but this fight is not over. The Black Journey remains committed to protecting the historical record and ensuring that the stories of enslaved Africans and Black Philadelphians are not erased from sites that are supposed to tell the full story of American history.

We knew when we joined this case that this would be a long fight. We are still standing—and we are still fighting for the history that belongs to all of us.

History is not something to be edited when it becomes uncomfortable. It must be preserved, taught, and told truthfully.

Stay tuned. We’ll continue to keep our followers informed as the case moves forward. ✊🏾

🤠 The Cowboys You Don’t Always See in the History Books

During my visit to the Fort Worth Stockyards, I visited a museum that shines a light on the history of Black cowboys, including the legendary Bill Pickett, one of the most famous Black cowboys and rodeo performers in American history.

The museum highlights the important role Black cowboys played in the cattle drives, including those along the Chisholm Trail. And let’s be clear: this was hard, heavy, dangerous work.

Cowboy culture is often romanticized in movies and popular culture, but we don’t always see the Black, Latino, and women cowboys who were part of this history.

I love visiting places that help uncover the stories that have been left out of the traditional narrative. The American West was—and is—much more diverse than the cowboy images we were taught. 🤠🐎

Another stop on my journey to uncover Black history and the stories that shaped our communities! 🤠📚

During my visit to Fort Worth, Texas, I took a fascinating history tour and learned about the city’s founding and development dating back to the 1840s. It was incredible to learn how the city evolved, who helped build it, and the stories that are often left out of the traditional history books.

Every city has layers—and I love digging beneath the surface to uncover them! ✊🏾✨
