A call for everyone to wear gold on Sept 16

Barbour County Schools is uniting statewide for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — In recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders (WV Kids CC) is calling on schools, businesses, organizations and communities across the Mountain State to GO GOLD on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in a statewide show of support for children and families impacted by childhood cancer.
Gold is the nationally recognized color for childhood cancer awareness, representing the courage, strength and resilience of children facing cancer. On September 16, West Virginians are encouraged to wear gold, decorate schools and businesses, share awareness messages and remind families across our state that they do not fight alone.
“Going Gold is more than wearing a color — it is a visible reminder to our children and families that an entire state stands beside them. Every gold shirt, ribbon, classroom, storefront and community sends the same message: We see you. We support you. We fight with you.”
Schools are encouraged to host Go Gold days for students and staff. Businesses can decorate storefronts and offices, invite employees to wear gold and share awareness messages. Community organizations, local leaders, athletic teams and families are also encouraged to participate and share their photos on social media, helping create a statewide wave of gold.
Behind every gold ribbon is a child, a family and a story that deserves to be seen, heard and supported.

Participants are encouraged to share photos and stories from their Go Gold activities on social media and tag West Virginia Kids Cancer Crusaders to help show the strength of communities standing together for West Virginia kids.
ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA KIDS CANCER CRUSADERS
Since 2014, WV Kids Cancer Crusaders has served more than 700 West Virginia families by providing direct financial assistance to children and families impacted by childhood cancer. The volunteer-run organization also provides scholarships, family resources, advocacy and awareness initiatives throughout West Virginia.
