As the owner of an adventure company, I refrain from frequently sharing the challenges we face.
Visitors to the Sonoran Desert in the summer when we start having extreme heat warnings under estimate what that means ..
When I advise clients to start a double black diamond hike at 5:45 am due to the extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 106 degrees, I do so with the utmost consideration for their safety and well-being.
My primary concern is the welfare of my clients, and I emphasize that physical fitness is not the sole determining factor in tackling certain hikes in Phoenix. The harsh weather conditions and intense sunlight pose significant risks, regardless of one's physical shape. I commend individuals who prioritize their physical health.
However, the Sonoran Desert is unforgiving, and accomplishments hold little weight. When I recommend avoiding late-night activities before a hike, it's to mitigate the risk of dehydration and heat stroke.
While you're adults, capable of making your own decisions, I implore you to use sound judgment. Heed advice from someone who prioritizes your safety above all else, ensuring your return to your accommodations or resort without incident. Unless you're prepared to cover the costs of a helicopter rescue, I advise you to listen to guidance from someone experienced in navigating Phoenix's summer hiking trails.
Yikes!!
