As the day unfolds, I'm hearkening back to this date in 1994, when 'RG' (ie Running Grape) made it's first appearance in our wine country and got things running for Grape Escape. My, what a ride it's been!

Rather than tipping our hat to last year as per usual, we decided to toast year 1993, when I challenged my advertising cohort to create a logo depicting the name I'd come up for my soon to be touring company, Grape Escape.

After a few nights and beers, things started to take shape... with a nod to fun, rather than pretentiousness. Honing in on the final version, Jerry erased the upraised hands and asked his wife what she thought. "To whimsical" was the answer.. but it gave us all a chuckle. That's when we knew we had it and "RG", (Running Grape), our beloved logo was born.

Since those days, RG has graced our vans, hats, shirts and more and has brought a smile to the varied guests (5,000+ tours), we've hosted in our beautiful wine country.

Agreed upon payment for the logo was a half case of wine and a tour as trade. Quite a deal we got. After twenty nine years, we finally got Jerry (the beer, not wine loving sort) and Maggie to join our friends on a tour last week. What a day it was!

And RG.. well he's still running. As they say in the advertising industry.. that logo has legs!

Our Annual Tip of The Hat.. this to 2021.. a year of unusual weather, that Covid thing... and some darn nice wine country experiences featuring a bevy of stellar wineries, wines, people and wonderful customers. Cheers to that!

As 2020 comes to a close.. I find myself reminiscing about the good (customers, wineries, government assistance) and the bad (pandemic, smoke) experiences that came our way. Like everyone, we adjusted. For us, that meant downsizing (smaller groups for distancing) and like the wineries, setting up new protocols. In a snapshot (actually 9 snapshots), here's a brief Pandemic year history... 1 ) Pondering the future 2) First out of work project.. paint Grape Estate ceiling, then nap 3) Covid proof vans with acrylic barrier and pop out windows for better airflow 4) Get back to touring (Yahooo), here at Lenne and then 5) JK Carriere, 6 & 7) Smoked out Tours.. (Boo hoo) What to do? H'mm, let's use our Grape Estate space to host groups. Very cool! 8) Clean skies (Whew!) and back in biz..here with a visit to JL Kiff and 9) Resonance. All in all, we and our guests had great times (thank you wineries) .. and have no complaints. For those interested, we'll share a few more pics over the next couple of days of our 2020 greatest hits.

Making Wine Country Grape Again / Sunday was my first day back hosting guests in our wine country. I wasn't sure what to expect with new Covid protocols, and all, but I was super impressed with the wineries we visited.. ArborBrook, Domiane Divio and Dominio IV. The new protocols for each winery were well thought out, easy to follow and in no way diminished our customer's day. They loved the intimacy of the experiences at each of the wineries and the time their hosts gave to them. Merci! With our new touring protocols and those of the wineries, it made me feel great about hosting customers in wine country again.
