We’re thrilled to share that the Explore Prineville has received $26,739.00 from Travel Oregon’s Competitive Grant Program to fund a new marketing campaign called Explore for All!

This initiative will highlight and educate visitors and residents on accessible outdoor experiences in the Prineville and Crook County area — helping ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Central Oregon.

We can’t wait to share more soon as we work to make our outdoors more inclusive and welcoming for all.

From the refreshing waters of Prineville Reservoir to the scenic Crooked River, Crook County is full of incredible places to cool off — but staying safe is just as important as having fun.

Here’s how to make the most of our local water spots safely:
✅ Always wear a life jacket — even near shorelines or on paddleboards.
✅ Keep kids close and never leave them unattended near water.
✅ Skip the alcohol when swimming, boating, or fishing.

Update on 7/18 from the Crook County Sheriff's Office:

Crook County Emergency Management has been closely monitoring the Cram Fire, currently burning in Jefferson County.
Due to the fire's progression and proximity to the county line, the Crook County Sheriff's Office has increased the evacuation:

LEVEL 2 "BE SET" evacuation notices for parts of northern Crook County. Affected areas include:

- Foley Butte
- North of the 27 Road to Ochoco Divide on Highway 26

Crook County Emergency Management will continue to coordinate with Jefferson County officials, OSFM, and ODF and provide updates as the situation develops.

For the most current information and updates follow the Crook County Sheriff's Office page and/or use emergency alert apps such as Genasys or Watch Duty.

Please stay alert, prepared, and safe. Continue to monitor for updates on evacuation levels.
