Update on our 20,000th tree 🌱

For more than 20 years, we’ve been restoring the native forest at Pōhakuokala Gulch on the slopes of Haleakalā. What was once overrun with invasive eucalyptus is now home to thousands of native plants and trees, including koa that now tower over 40 feet tall.

Pretty special seeing this one continue to grow 🤙🏼

Nature’s original hula dancer. 🌿✨

Did you know the ‘ōlapa tree is named for the way its leaves flutter and dance, even in the slightest breeze? In Hawaiian culture, ‘ōlapa also refers to hula dancers who move with that same grace and energy.

Skyline Conservation Initiative works across Maui and Lana'i to revive native forests, protect endangered species, and strengthen watersheds through our inhouse restoration work at Pōhakuokalā, and by providing skilled contracted work to outside conservation programs in support of our mission: To Restore Native Ecosystems for Future Generations.

We’re proud to launch the Skyline Conservation Initiative website.

Rooted in aloha ʻāina and guided by kuleana, this work brings together science, stewardship, and community to restore and protect Hawaiʻi’s native forests and watersheds across Maui and Lānaʻi. It’s long term, hands on, and focused on the future of these islands.
