I'm already tired of this topic on social media, but I want to briefly address the new rules Airbnb has instituted. There's a lot to delve into - much of it doesn't affect us as we have never collected IDs or had people sign separate contracts outside of the platform.
The other portion is the gleefully publicized "no more chores" part. To be clear, the only relevant "chores" we ever had were asking people to put their trash in the outside cans when they left, and start the dishwasher. With that said, we have never penalized a guest for not doing this. Ever.
I can no longer ask our guests to put their dishes in the dishwasher or press the button. And I cannot request that the trash go to the shed when they leave. But for any repeat guests who see this, just consider that our amazing regular cleaner is a self-employed local who works with a closeknit team. If you don't take out the trash, she will do it. If you don't load the dishwasher, it means she has to do that before getting to her real work, which is sanitizing and polishing the house from top to bottom and changing all the beds to make them beautiful again.
Considering how many people have spontaneously rated us "squeaky clean" and raved about our spotlessness, I hope most of them will continue to be nice to Sue and her colleagues by doing these little things that keep our house pest-free and make same-day turnovers possible.
That's all. When it becomes too hard to do, we'll just stop renting. I'm not going to fight about it with people on the internet. Thank you to the 90% of past guests who have been absolutely lovely. Please keep coming back!
