If you've been eyeing the Camino de Santiago and wondering when to go, September might be the answer you haven't considered yet.

Most people picture the Camino Francés in the heat of summer, and it's easy to see why — July and August are the most popular months, and for good reason. But they're also the hottest, driest, and most crowded.

September tells a different story. The temperatures ease off, the crowds thin out, and you still get relatively low rainfall — it's one of our two favorite months to send trekkers out on the Camino, right alongside April.

If a Camino trip has been on your someday list, September is worth moving to the top.

Many of our trips include a welcome briefing before you head out — and if you've ever sat through one, you know it's easy to nod along and only really absorb half of it.

There's a lot of information coming at you at once, and most of it doesn't feel urgent until you're actually on the trail wishing you'd written it down.

We put together a full guide on how to get the most out of that conversation: the questions worth asking before you go (not after), how to prep with the info already provided, and the small details — that catch people off guard on day two.

If you've got a trip coming up, or you're just curious what goes into the prep, give it a read:

"Which Patagonia trek should I do?"

Here's how our three routes actually compare:

The W-Trek is the classic for a reason: 4 days through Torres del Paine's most iconic scenery, including Valle del Francés and sunrise at the base of the towers. It's the most accessible of the three, which makes it a great fit if you're newer to multi-day hiking or working with limited time.

The O-Trek is the W's longer, wilder sibling — 8 days on a full loop around the back of the Paine massif, crossing the demanding John Gardner Pass along the way. You'll see far fewer people and a lot more remote terrain.

The M-Trek is exclusive to Pygmy Elephant and the one people forget to ask about. 5 days and through El Chaltén's valleys, with Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre as your backdrop the whole way. Similar difficulty to the W-Trek, but a completely different landscape and a lot fewer crowds.

Short on time or new to trekking? Start with the W. Want the full wilderness experience and don't mind the extra days? Go O. Chasing those Fitz Roy postcard views without the lines? The M-Trek is calling.

Check out our latest blog to help you compare the three.

If you've never heard of the M-Trek, you're not alone — it's the quiet alternative to the W-Trek and O-Trek, and it might be the best-kept secret in Patagonia (and the itinerary is exclusive to Pygmy Elephant).

Instead of Torres del Paine, the M-Trek takes you through El Chaltén, Argentina's trekking capital, with Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre as your backdrop for almost the entire 5-day route.

You'll pass Laguna Torre and the Río Eléctrico valley, with a chance of spotting huemul deer along the way.

You will spend your nights in a mountain hut, Patagonia Eco Domes, and a 4-star hotel in town.
