June 9th, our last day in China! πŸ˜”πŸ˜ We traveled back down the mountain and visited the Baiheliang Underwater Museum (or White Crane Ridge Underwater Museum) in Fuling. The museum displays centuries-old inscriptions recording changes in the water level of the Yangtze River for around 1,200 years. The site consists of a stone ridge that is 1,600 meters by 15 meters in size. It is now submerged under 43 meters of water. Amazing ancient carvings and history preserved! Later we headed back to Chongqing Airport for our return home.

June 8th, we traveled 2 hours by bus to the beautiful mountain area of Fuling, it's a district of Chongqing, where the Wu River meets the Yangzte! First stop, Project 816! We visited the 816 Nuclear Military Plant. It is an unfinished Chinese underground nuclear weapons production facility and the largest man-made tunnel structure in the world. A military megaproject, the nuclear base is located near what is now suburban Fuling, a municipality in Chongqing. In 2010, it was opened to Chinese tourists. It is a distinct network of nuclear-weapons manufacturing tunnels to the likewise defunct Underground Project 131 and the still operational "Underground Great Wall of China." Following the visit we were served lunch in the military facility onsite.
