Juneau was my favorite port in Alaska, and it wasn’t because of the glacier.
We did Mendenhall in the morning and walked the trail out to Nugget Falls. About a mile each way, flat the whole way, and standing at the base of that waterfall with the glacier behind you is the part most people skip.
Then a short bus ride to the whale boat, and we were surrounded. Whales on both sides of us at once.
Then into town to eat. Geoff had king crab at Tracy’s right by the dock, and I had the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve had in a long time.
That’s why Juneau won. Glacier, whales, and a real town with real food, all in one day. No other port gives you all three.
If Alaska is on your list, I put together a free first-time cruiser checklist with the things I wish people knew before they book. It's here: https://emeraldcovetravel.com/free-guide
Save this for your Juneau day. 💚
