My Guests
How a Guestbook Became My Roadbook
What began as a simple guestbook for my photo exhibition at the first European Route 66 Festival in 2016 became something much more personal. A year later, it traveled with me along the Mother Road, collecting signatures, memories, and stories of unforgettable encounters.
After years tucked away on a shelf, my Roadbook has finally found its way back into my hands – bringing back memories of wonderful people, treasured friendships, and moments that never really faded.
Some left their signatures in my book. Others left their footprints in my heart.
And the road goes on . . . forever.

Was 2016 als Gästebuch begann, wurde zu meinem persönlichen Roadbook – einem Schatz voller Erinnerungen und Freundschaften entlang der Mother Road. Nach Jahren wiederentdeckt, lässt es längst verga…

Route 66 Midpoint – Where Did Those 170 Miles Go?
It all started with a question in my Route 66 Travelers Facebook group. One of our members wondered why the famous Midpoint in Adrian, Texas, shows 2,278 miles when Route 66 is commonly known as a 2,448-mile journey. Asking for a friend, of course! 😉

Where did those 170 miles go? And how did a small café in the Texas Panhandle become one of the Mother Road’s most famous landmarks?

The answers reveal a fascinating chapter of Route 66 history!

Almost ten years after my first interview with Dora Meroney, I went back to the beginning — and discovered that behind Texas Ivy, Dora and Andy Meroney, and their life along Route 66, there was far more than I had ever known.
I found a name with a deeper meaning, a story that I had completely missed, a loss that changed everything and a Route 66 community that proved what “family” can really mean.
Some stories only reveal themselves when you return to them years later.
This is such a story.

We only stepped into Fast Fanny’s because the dream catchers outside caught my eye.

We had no idea who Jackie Rowland and Prospector Bob were — or that this little stop in Oatman would turn into one of those Route 66 memories that never quite fades.

A long conversation followed, then Bob started singing for us. And yes, “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” was one of the songs.

Only later did I discover who Jackie really was and how deeply her story was woven into Oatman and Route 66.

Sometimes the best encounters are the ones you never planned.

Twenty-five years ago, just weeks after September 11, I was supposed to leave for a long-planned trip to the United States.

Then Swissair was grounded.

What followed was a journey full of uncertainty, detours, unexpected hurdles — and one small Route 66 souvenir whose meaning I would only understand many years later.

My memories of a journey through an America still deeply affected by the attacks — told from today’s perspective.

The whole story in my blog. Link in Bio.

Vor 25 Jahren begann eine Reise, die beinahe schon am Münchner Flughafen endete. Der 11. September hatte die Welt verändert, Swissair blieb am Boden – und trotzdem machte ich mich am 3. Oktober 200…
