This is one of my favorite captures over the recent years. It was a frigid night as I stood just below St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This structure certainly stands out and is visible from most locations here. During the war, and as the town changed hands a number of times, the church's neutrality was emphasized with the flying of a British Union Jack flag.

Along Main Street in Sharpsburg, Maryland, this was the site of the Lutheran Church in 1862. The modern wooden sign reads: “Used as a signal station by Lee. Was also a Union Hospital."

Famously photographed by Alexander Gardner just after the battle, the original structure that once stood here did sustain some battle damage as incoming Federal artillery rounds would have been coming down around this area. Confederate forces had guns placed just above this location on the high ground across what is today's Antietam National Cemetery. As a bonus, a Civil War Trails, Inc. wayside was placed here just a few years ago…

I will tell you about my experience today and yesterday involving the post I made in Sharpsburg Ghost Tours .

Not all ghosts are Civil War related here in Sharpsburg, Maryland. I just received a message for someone local from the spirit of an older woman with short curly grey/white hair wearing a navy blue dress from the 1940s or 50s. She was in a 1980s style kitchen.

I believe she once lived on Sharpsburg Pike in a now abandoned brick rancher. I will take photos later today of the house and possibly a video.

But her message is "Put them on restriction." If this message might be for you, please comment or message me.

Edit: Added a Chat GPT photo (against my beliefs) to help show all of you see what the spirit looked a bit like. Does she look familiar to anyone living in or from Sharpsburg?

A beloved piece of Shepherdstown history is back! Thanks to a grant from WISH (Women Investing in Shepherd), the Florence Shaw Demonstration Cottage, better known as the Little House, has been beautifully restored.

Built in 1929 as a hands-on learning project for Shepherd College students and local children, this tiny limestone cottage has long been one of Jefferson County’s most charming landmarks.

It will be open 10am-2pm on the 2nd Saturday of each month, or by request.

Donations are gratefully accepted to the Little House Fund through the Shepherd University Foundation:
