Did you know…In June 1775, the Continental Congress ordered the formation of 10 companies of Virginia riflemen to march to the aid of George Washington's forces at Boston.

After six weeks of preparation Shepherdstown’s rifle company was eager to get to Boston. After marching 600 miles in 24 days, the riflemen arrived at Cambridge, Massachusetts. The extraordinary journey of the Virginians became known in history as the Bee Line March.

Cecil in a Nutshell

Did you know...
The gene responsible for the orange color in cats was a subject of speculation for many years, but it has now been identified. Cats with orange fur possess this color due to a deletion mutation, which means there is a missing segment in the noncoding region of a gene linked to pigmentation and neuroendocrine tissues.

There are also more male orange cats than female ones (Hello Cecil!!) because this gene is situated on the X-chromosome, of which males have only one copy. Females are often tortoiseshell or calico due to having two X chromosomes, allowing for a greater variety of genetic coat color possibilities.

Come and see Shepherdstown’s own beloved, and famous, Orange Cat – Cecil, on a Shepherdstown Mystery Walk!

Absolutely devastating news. Our National Conservation Training Center Eagle Cam caught our Bald Eagle nest right here in Shepherdstown collapse last night in the devastating 90mph winds that came through right at 10pm. All 3 eaglets have been confirmed to have died. They did not survive the 90 foot drop when the nest collapsed. Bella, their Mama, has not been located.
We, at Shepherdstown Mystery Walks, are in tears.
This is absolutely devastating to all who have watched these Eagles build this nest, thrive and lay, incubate and grow these 3 Eaglet chicks this year.
Warning: VIDEO IS HARD TO WATCH

This evening during fierce winds, the nest collapses at 9:59:50pm with Bella & the three eaglets. Randy & Jim went to the site to assess. The winds came on s...
