Cordless hair devices are the latest items to be banned from checked luggage, as reflected in the TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” list. This includes cordless curling irons and flatirons containing gas cartridges, butane-fueled curling irons and flatirons, and gas refill cartridges for these tools.

However, guests can still bring certain items in carry-on bags; cordless curling irons containing a gas cartridge, as well as butane-fueled curling irons, are allowed in carry-ons, for instance, if a safety cover is securely fitted over the heating element to avoid accidental activation.

Another alternative is packing corded electric curling irons and hair straighteners, which are permitted in both carry-ons and checked luggage as long as they do not include batteries or gas/fuel cartridges.

For travelers who like to dress up, we have good news – the TSA actually prefers you leave your diamonds and other expensive jewelry on at the security checkpoint. Remember this when purchasing souvenirs to take in your carry-on bag.
