Yesterday in Annecy felt straight out of a storybook.
The lake is really the heart of this town, so we started the day the best way possible, by bike. We rode through the city and out into the surrounding neighborhoods where Sunday morning looked exactly how you’d hope: families picnicking, kids playing soccer and tennis, friends having coffee, dogs everywhere, and people heading home with fresh bread and vegetables from the market.
Then we switched gears for a private walking tour through the old town. This is one of those places where having your own guide makes such a difference, you move at your pace, spend time on what actually interests you, and can ask the important questions… like where to find the best cheese.
Later, a boat ride gave us an entirely different view of the lake, mountains, vineyards and some very impressive homes.
And because the best days usually end around a table: fondue, local wine from the vineyards we had just seen, and gelato.
This is my favorite way to experience Europe, a little sightseeing, a little local life, great food, and enough breathing room to actually enjoy where you are.
