Heads up, travelers! Important update from the Transportation Security Administration - TSA.
Starting February 1, 2026, anyone flying without a REAL ID (or another acceptable ID, like a passport) will have to pay a $45 fee before being allowed through airport security.
Why the change? TSA says the fee is meant to cover the cost of verifying non-compliant IDs, a service that’s currently funded by taxpayers. With this new rule, the cost shifts to travelers who don’t present compliant identification.
If you plan to travel by air, this is a good time to make sure your ID is REAL ID-ready or bring a passport to avoid unexpected fees and potential delays. ✈️
