Two members of the Tour Tahlequah & Explore Cherokee County team have been named 2026 NextGen Under 30 honorees! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Tourism Director Victoria Byrd and Destination Specialist Alex Mcbride on this well-deserved recognition.
NextGen Under 30 Oklahoma recognizes Oklahoma’s emerging leaders who demonstrate talent, drive, innovation, and a commitment to making a difference in their communities. For Victoria and Alex, that commitment is reflected in the work they do every day to promote Tahlequah and Cherokee County as a destination worth discovering.

From developing new ways to tell the story of our destination to creating meaningful visitor experiences and supporting the businesses, attractions, and communities that make Cherokee County special, their work is helping move our tourism industry forward.

🎉Cherokee National Holiday celebrates the signing of the Cherokee constitution, and is full of activities! Enjoy inter-tribal powwows, parades, art shows, live music, sporting events, and more! Please check www.thecherokeeholiday.com for event details!

🐐Visit Goat Island on Lake Tenkiller! Boat or kayak to the island located in Pettit Bay! Goats inhabit the island and makes for a fun pit stop while out enjoying the lake!

🎆Attend the Sequoyah State Park Fireworks show on Saturday September 5th at dusk! The fireworks can be seen from Sequoyah Lodge and Inspiration Point!

Oklahoma summers are hot, but Cherokee, OK is the best place to cool off! Here are some ways to beat the heat whether you were born to tube, or love learning history at museums!

🏊Swim at the Illinois River! Multiple public access areas offer free places to enjoy the beautiful clear waters. Edmondson and Round Hollow both offer plenty of gravel bar to set up chairs, coolers, and umbrellas. Take your adventure up a notch by floating the river with an outfitter!

🏫Visit the Cherokee National History Museum! Cool off inside while learning the story of the Cherokee people. Don't miss out on the Cherokee Supreme Court and Prison museums which are within easy walking distance of each other. Additionally the museums have free admission.

🍦Eat ice cream at Sweet On Main! Enjoy rolled ice cream at a local joint where you can customize your ice cream, and watch them make it right before your eyes. This cool treat is a sure way to beat the heat.

🛥 Tube on Tenkiller! Tubing is not only a great way to cool off, but is also a perfect way to make memories. Boat drivers might just have more fun with this activity than the people on the tube. Either way, everyone's reactions will be priceless.

🚲Ride a water trike at Paradise Cove Marina! This marina is located within Sequoyah State Park on Fort Gibson Lake and is one of Cherokee County's best kept secrets. Peddle your trike by yourself or with a friend!
