I’m currently onboard the Carnival Mardi Gras with my family. It’s a BEAUTIFUL ship. I am so impressed by the design, the food options, and the entertainment. Carnival has really stepped up their game with their fleet and family-friendly sailing.

A tip: Even if you aren’t a gambler, go to the casino on the ship, spend $10 on games, and join the club. Just trust me on this. I am not a gambler (I think I’ve played the lottery a dozen times in my life and have been to a casino maybe 5 times) but I did this about a decade ago and found out it unlocks a ton of great cruising deals. As long as you remain active (play a couple games for $10-20 when you cruise) you’ll be eligible for everything from free drinks to free cabins.

I’ve got free drinks on this cruise as a Casino Player’s Club member and I basically walk up to the casino bar, order, tip on my free drink, and leave. I only play if I’m feeling lucky and I limit myself to $20 at a time. I won $125 the first day of the cruise, but that’s not the good part- the good part is at $13/drink, I’ll save more on getting my drinks from the casino bar than if I’d bought a drink package. I can have up to 15 per day for free.

And even better? I booked this trip a year ago at a casino rate that gave me $200 in on board credit we used on excursions AND saved $500 off the room.

It pays to play- even if you’re a $20 hustler like me.

We sailed on Margaritaville’s Paradise out of Palm Beach in 2023 using their Heroes program, as my husband and I were both in public education at the time. They’ve been running some great promos lately and now have another ship, the Islander, sailing out of Tampa. As locals to Tampa, we decided to check out what Heroes deals were available and found a 5 night cruise to Mexico for the 3 of us that only cost us port fees and taxes, which were less than $500.

That’s not a typo- we booked a cruise for 5 nights for 3 people for under $500 with their Heroes program, which can be used by employees in healthcare fields, military, first responders, and educators.

The deal was so good that after booking I decided to upgrade our room to a Balcony stateroom- for a total of $112!
