Gorilla trekking has more structure to it than people expect. You're capped at one hour with the family once your guide finds them, and only 6 to 8 visitors are allowed per group per day.

Along the way, you stay 15 feet back, keep your voice down, and skip the flash on your camera. It sounds strict, and it is. It's also a big part of why mountain gorillas went from under 300 in the 1980s to over 1,000 today. 🦍

Chobe National Park has one of the highest concentrations of elephants left in Africa, and in the dry season you can watch entire herds come down to drink at the Chobe River within a few hours of each other. 🐘

The river is also what makes Chobe National Park different from a typical game drive safari. A boat safari puts you eye level with hippos and crocodiles instead of watching from a vehicle above the bank, and it's often the easier way to see the Big Five in one visit since everything moves toward the water when the land dries out.

Chobe National Park is also one of the few parks where the birdlife holds its own next to the mammals, and it sits close enough to Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta that most of our Botswana itineraries link all three. ✨
