From the second they arrive on the planet, just inches long and utterly dependent, your children occupy a place in your heart deeper than most any other relationship.

You nurture, guide, feed, and protect them for years. The relationship brings you a complex mixture of joy, frustration, sadness, delight, anger, pride, and love. Your children occupy your focus like nothing else, as they grow taller and more independent with every year.

And then they grow up and fly away.

Of course, you knew that from the beginning. In fact, that’s been the goal all along, but that doesn't make the empty nest experience any easier when it finally arrives.

Fortunately, an empty nest is also the beginning of another era for parents, one that can be equally fulfilling. Check out my blog below for some helpful tips to get you through this challenging time and give me a call!

Making active choices can be painful. Feelings of fear and vulnerability often accompany these decisions. Just because you know what's best for you, doesn't make it any easier.

The most difficult choices usually don't have an absolute right or wrong...no perfect solution. It takes great courage to face these types of difficult decisions. Don't be afraid to ask for a little help!

Can you recall someone saying, “Just be positive and everything will be fine”? Did you instantly feel positive? Probably not. Of course, their intention was good, but it probably left you feeling annoyed and irritated!

Positive thinking is not about being happy all the time or avoiding negative emotions. Positive thinking is acknowledging when things go wrong and adopting a growth mindset! This can have a huge impact on your ability to manage stress.

As more is learned about the human energy system an increasing connection between the body and the emotions has become apparent. Loosely speaking the space where body and emotions connect is in the human energy field. This field is both in and around the body.

When an original traumatic event occurs the body “records” the event automatically and subconsciously. This happens with no mental effort or awareness and the recording can be filed away in the nervous system as neutral, positive or negative at the time of the experience. Typically, if the body interprets the event as neutral or positive, no pattern is stored that would cause a future trigger. However, if the event is interpreted by the nervous system as threatening or unsafe, the event is stored in the body and brain and can act as a future trigger.

I think we all can agree that stress affects our health and can be detrimental to our bodies. Did you know that simply “hurrying” can cause you stress? Try walking slower, chewing slower, and working at a steady but not frantic pace. You might be surprised to find yourself performing better.

This may be easier said than done, but try to make a point to focus on changing your mindset around it.

Just like everyone else’s at times, my life can get consumed with projects and things on the “to do” list.
