Hard to believe I am going on 18 years of doing guided fishing charters.
It's been a crazy up and down ride but we still have fun and catch a few fish along the way.

Long time client William brought his friend Jenny from the Philippines on today's charter.
Jenny had never caught a fish before. Today she lost count of how many trout she caught.

Well I thought I should post up and let you all know what's been going on.
I haven't been on the water since Oct 3rd.
It's been one thing after another.
First we had Hurricane Helene. After a short break from Tampa got a near head on hit from Hurricane Milton. Folks I'm not going to lie. I've lived in Tampa for 55 years. This is the first time a storm scared me.
My wife and I got really lucky and we didn't sustain any damage.
After Milton I was in the process of taking things I had put in my shop out after the storm. I walked past my boat and got a strong smell of fuel.
After some investigation I found the fuel tank was leaking. Uhggg! This is a major undertaking. The fuel tank is concealed below deck and the only way to gain access is to cut the deck out. It's a good thing I'm handy and capable of doing most repairs on my boat. I went to work on it and had a new tank built. The new tank took longer than expected but I finally got it and have been working on putting it back together. We had a cold front come thru so that has slowed the process.
I'm real close and after this latest front passes and the rain is gone I should have it done.
I hope you all will keep me in mind if you decide you want to get out and fish. It's been a really tough year truth be told and I would surely appreciate the support.

Yesterday was my first charter I ran in over a month since being in the keys on vacation.
It was with long time customer William and the first time he brought his daughters along. Neither one of them had been on a boat in 15 years so it was a special day for them and William.
They caught plenty of fish and took a few home for dinner.
With water temps high it looks like my main focus will be Snapper and Mackerel for the next couple of months.

Had repeat customers Jason and Alyssa on board for 3 days this week.
They caught a variety, released a lot and took a few to have prepared for dinner at a Tampa Bay area restaurant.
Great times with great people from Arkansas.

The bite wasn't what I would call on fire but Ben and his dad Tony had patience and it paid off. Neither had fished the flats before so this was a totally new experience for them.

Its been cold and its been windy. Haven't run a lot of charters these past two months of the new year but on the ones I have we have caught a lot of fish although mostly on the smaller side.
I did get one day of calm seas that I was able to get away with my good friend Capt. Rafael Rios to do a little nearshore fishing.

Things should get better for inshore fishing as we progress into March and hopefully our water temp starts rising and the fish get more active and start showing up in there spring time haunts.

Our Story

Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charter’s was established in 2008. Since that time Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charters has grown to be one of the Top Rated fishing charter business in the Tampa Bay area. (You can check out the reviews on Trip Advisor)

Captain Steve has always kept it in his mind that people work hard for there money so he always works hard for them. Not wanting the reputation of the guide who is in a hurry to get back to the dock to pick up the next charter Capt. Steve chooses to only run one charter per day. He feels this gives him the best opportunity to make it the customers day and to work with the conditions handed out that day. On a Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charter we fish for a variety of species in Tampa Bay. Snook, Redfish, Trout, Cobia, Snapper, Sheephead, Spanish Mackerel and Sharks are just some of what you might expect to catch depending on the season.

In the many years since starting Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charter’s Capt. Steve has been dedicated to giving his customers the best experience on the water possible. Capt. Steve also has close connections with a network of Tampa Bay Fishing Guides as well as guides around the state of Florida as a member of the Florida Guides association. If you are in the Tampa Bay area and Capt Steve is not available he can always recommend a guide to suit your needs. You can call or text Capt. Steve directly if you would like to book a Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charter. (813)727-8843
