🗑♻️📿🚱 We continue to see the effects of continuous cleaning in the Bay!

What started as thousands of pounds of debris, is now less than 60. Collecting this debris is extremely important though, as the tides will continue to bring them out into the Gulf to depths that may be unrecoverable.

Nonetheless, we continue to work with divers to clean up the communities they live in which can improve water quality, reduce the debris in the open ocean, and reduce harmful materials from entangling or harming wildlife.

Thank you to Boyscout Troup 53 and our amazing volunteers for coming out to clean up Picnic Island! Our next cleanup is Garrison Channel on Oct 18!

We are also proud to now offer Marine Debris Specialist certification for those who are interested in learning how to conduct their own cleanups!

🐅 🦈 in The Gulf on Sunday ready to mingle!

Tiger sharks are rare to spot diving in our area, but can travel great distances and have a very varied diet. This was a juvenile around 8 feet but still a large apex predator. Their behavior is different to bulls and reef sharks as they often move to the surface to investigate boats, divers, and any opportunity that may arise.

Very fun to see these inquisitive creatures up and close! Have you had an encounter with a tiger?!

Abyss Freediving is a state spearfishing champion and has been teaching for over 14 years and received training directly from PFI founder, Kirk Krack. He is also a PFI Instructor Trainer through Chris Bustad.

Calling all divers!! 📞🫧🙋‍♀️

We just participated in the Women Divers Hall of Fame funded research by Sarah Crawford today at Hudson Grotto ! They still need divers for Tuesday through Thursday and they have 10 slots - one at 10AM, one at 12 PM and one at 2 PM.

Help volunteer for research about diving and support the local community of diving! You will want a 28% tank and rental equipment is available.

The more we do these cleanups, the more we realize the impact of our River conveyor belts that deliver straight to the ocean. 🏞🗑🙋‍♀️

Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful hosted Hillsborough River and Coastal Cleanups this weekend throughout the city! 🏙

The impact that still needs to be made in this area is significant! We were able to pull more than 890 lbs of debris from the river bridge near Sulfur Springs. To make matters worse, in the winter, manatees give birth around this area!!! We wanted to pull out trash before that time. A huge thank you to Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, our amazing volunteers, and to our shore crew for keeping everyone safe!

If you are interested in learning more on how to do a dive cleanup, especially our more advanced ones, we do offer classes for those who are interested!

So proud of the City of Tampa for coming together this weekend!
