Tropical Storm Lala has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane, with the height of intensity for Hawaiʻi Island expected this afternoon. Wind gusts are also beginning across portions of the other islands and will continue through Sunday. Heavy rain, dangerous surf, and the potential for flooding and mudslides in steep terrain are expected statewide through the weekend.
