The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has closed hiking, biking and off-road vehicle (ORV) trails indefinitely in the 12 counties for which Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency on March 31.
The emergency declaration came after parts of the northern Lower Peninsula and eastern Upper Peninsula were covered in snow and ice over the course of multiple days at the end of last month.
Thick ice coated nearly everything and brought down countless trees, limbs and branches. As of Monday evening, power companies in the region were still working to restore service to tens of thousands of homes and businesses. DNR Parks and Recreation Chief Ron Olson says while the bad weather has passed, the risk of falling limbs hasn’t. He says the trails are closed because of the danger of “hangers”.

We have designed our fall schedule to give you the best odds of seeing the beautiful Fall colors. Mid September we start with hosting nearly a week long overland trip traveling east to west. The following weekend we'll have a group join us for a tour around the Keweenaw Peninsula area. In October we'll host 2 Shore to Shore long weekend trips again travelling east to west in the Lower Peninsula.

All you need to do is decide which area you want to experience, the style of trip that fits you best and then choose the dates that work best with your schedule. We look forward to seeing you in the fall!

On our Shore to Shore trip we offer a "Rustic" and "Comfort" version. Both trips will take you down the same great trail systems Michigan has to offer.
The difference is with rustic you'll cook breakfast and dinner at camp as well as make your lunch on the trails. Included in your rustic ticket is camping at State Forest Campgrounds where the amenities are fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, and pump water.
On the Comfort trip you will have breakfast provided by the hotels, prepare are own lunches on the trails and go out to eat in the evenings at nice restaurants we have found to host the group. Your included sleep accommodations will be at a nice hotel and we book double bed rooms for our guests.

"Can dogs join in on the fun of your adventure trips?" Yes and no. Yes on most camping style trips and no on most of the hotel (comfort) trips due to hotel restrictions. If bringing your dogs they must be leashed for the protection of all.
