Quality smallmouth four trips in a row on the big lake…

Good fishermen had over twenty with biggest just under five lbs on our previous trip.

Today was the first day this week that the wind allowed safe passage. The big ones were available with the best five weighing in at
6.05, 5.90, 5.22, 4.72 and 3.80–reminds me of spring weights!

The wind forecast is not good through next Monday which means more postponements to deal with.

I really appreciate the quality selection of bass fishing products at Michiana Hardware and Outdoors in Plymouth, Indiana—Shimano, Loomis, St. Croix, Megabass, LuckyCraft to name a few.

It is located a few blocks from the intersection of Highways 30 and 31.

A cold Saturday morning turned into a warm midday with a positive south wind.

The smallies were difficult until that desired wind moved baitfish shallower and then it became fun.

Big numbers topped off with a 5.60 and a 5.15 and a 4.64 with a couple others around 4.

A great day that even included a surprise catch!

The last couple days of the September Full Moon made some “chunks” catchable!

The biggie this time weighed in at 5.86 with several others well over 4 lbs.

Sunday’s catch total was over 20 but several of them were average at best. Some were suspended and some were bottom-huggers.

A couple areas that are normally good this time of year have not kicked in yet. I’m guessing (and hoping) that it will happen after a couple days of southwest winds.

Wind direction and wind velocity have been the gator in our swamp.

Yesterday was windy all day but today we had a few hours of fishable conditions.

We did catch fish but not as many as we could have in better conditions.

Monday and Wednesday were fishable days on the big lake. Tuesday was too windy.
Out of 26 smallies on Monday the five best totaled just over 21 lbs.
Out of 20 today the best five totaled just over 22 lbs.
The bigger fish didn’t show up today until midday while Monday’s action was all day long.
Guests on their way should hit it right if weather permits!

Another dose of wind affected where we could go and what we could do. We have very catchable fish if we can get safe and fishable weather.
New friends did a very good job of negotiating the wind on an inland lake.
The only day the big lake was fishable provided big numbers.
This coming week appears to be fishable with the exception of Tuesday.

Similar results in three trips this week. However, a couple 5s showed up late in the week.

Good fishermen got us started with a good outing on Tuesday. That day finesse was a requirement not an option.

I intentionally did not schedule anything on this holiday weekend. It could very well be crowded launches and lakes.

Already preparing for next Tuesday.

The Week of Wind…

Postponements, cancellations and relocations were the result. After a spring and summer of few weather problems Mother Nature reminded us of her power.

Forced to inland waters on Tuesday we were happy to catch 16 smallies in 5 hours. The north wind was very chilly.

The return to the big lake earned mixed results as three out of seven spots held fish. The five best ranged from 3.90 to 4.87.

Hopefully, next week will allow us on our prime spots…

Note #1 Three good fish not pictured were quickly released because of bleeding—not deep-hooked or from deep water. Likely the virus.

Note #2 We will begin “meat” fishing in October.
(All artificial baits targeting perch, walleye, etc)

Smallmouth aplenty the past couple days on the big lake…

Good anglers finessed well over 30 smallies on Wednesday and the “unknown angler” had a great day in new areas on Thursday.

I know the calendar shows it is August but my smallmouth are indicating September. And I’m fine with this.
