Bio Bio Expeditions

Bio Bio Expeditions Since 1994, Bio Bio Expeditions has offered exceptional, custom, worldwide adventure travel. Again, for these two river lovers, the Futaleufu was the jackpot!

Perhaps you are wondering “why the company name - Bio Bio Expeditions?” Our history is grounded in our strong South American roots and our deep love for the wild rivers and luscious forests of southern Chile. We formed our company in the early 90's on the mighty Bio Bio River in Chile. The Bio Bio River helped launch our company and out of deep respect for this iconic river and the indigenous peop

le living on its banks, we found the name for our adventure travel company. It feels like no coincidence to us that "Bio" in Spanish means life, as it is the life affirming, life enhancing nature of low-impact adventure travel that is our passion. Unfortunately, the Bio Bio River was eventually dammed but we didn't want to leave! We traveled further south, into Patagonia, and found ourselves on the Futaleufu River in Chile. We started small, built lasting and solid relationships with the local people, and slowly established ourselves as one of the premiere and respected companies on the river. We are proud of our standing in the local community and the knowledge of the area we have gained over the years. We are proud that our international staff of professional rafting and kayaking guides return year after year to work with us. We are proud that our guests like to return year after year as well, to paddle the crystalline waters, gallop through the meadows, soak in the hot tub, laugh by the fire, eat incredible meals, and make life-long friends and memories.

Have plans for Memorial Day? Join famed guides Santi Ibanez and Diego Ibanez on the Cotahuasi River Expedition in their home country, Peru - May 22-31, 2026.

The Cotahuasi Rafting Expedition is 50 miles of the most continuous, classic, technical whitewater on Earth. Class IV–V rapids, pounding through a 60-feet-per-mile gradient as we descend from below the 300-foot Sipia Falls all the way toward the Pacific. This is in one of the deepest canyons on the planet. Plus, amazing camping and Inca Ruins scattered along the way.

You know you'll have a fabulous time wherever you find yourself somewhere in the world with Santi and Diego, but this is a river unlike any other! So sign up, check your passport, and book some flights to Arequipa. We'll see you on the river in May!

Kicker Rock, one of the most iconic rock formations in the Galapagos Islands, is named because it resembles a boot when viewed from the northern vantage point. It is also known as (Sleeping Lion) due to its resemblance to a sleeping lion.

The formation, standing around 486', is the result of a volcanic eruption where magma mixed with seawater, creating a palagonite cone. Over time, wind and waves have shaped it into the distinctive structure we see today.

Both our Wilderness and Travel Medicine CME and International Veterinary Seminars CE trips got to explore these formations this week! Join us on one of our continuing education trips to the Galapagos, or share your vision and we'll build an experience that's just right for you!
