Three Mediterranean cruise mistakes we see almost every first-time cruiser about to make.

One: booking an itinerary that leaves Santorini before sunset. The whole reason you go there is the light at 7pm. If your ship pulls out at 3, you missed it.

Two: picking the cruise with the most ports. Eight cities in seven days sounds like a great deal until you realize half of them are tender ports where you wait 90 minutes to get off the ship.

Three: comparing base fares without checking what's bundled. A $3,000 cruise that adds $2,000 in WiFi, gratuities, drinks, and shore excursions is not a better deal than a $4,500 cruise where most of that is included. Run the math on the all-in number.

One of our advisors, Maria Matthews, just got back from Vietnam with tips you only get from someone who actually went.

Da Nang is one of the most underrated coastal cities in Southeast Asia. Wide beaches, relaxed pace, and growing five-star resort options. It pairs perfectly with Hoi An, just 45 minutes away. Stay in Da Nang for the beach, Hoi An for the walkable historic charm, or split between both.

Maria's three rules:

Download Grab before you land. It's the Uber of Southeast Asia. Skip the street taxis.

The Hoi An tailors can be excellent, but quality varies. Ask your hotel for names, bring a garment to copy, and be specific.

Go February through May. Summer is brutal and fall brings flooding rain.

For a first trip to Vietnam, an advisor saves you hours of research and unlocks Virtuoso perks at top properties. We're based in Tustin and plan central Vietnam itineraries.

Uber sells hotels now. 700,000 of them, powered by Expedia.

Convenient. But an app doesn't know the suite faces the parking lot. It doesn't know the property is mid-renovation. It doesn't know your anniversary is next week.
That's what a trusted advisor is for.

Travel protection isn’t just an add-on, it’s part of planning a trip properly.

From flight delays and cancellations to lost luggage and unexpected medical situations, travel protection helps cover the parts of travel that don’t go as planned.

Most travelers focus on booking flights and hotels, but protecting your trip is what determines how smoothly everything runs when something goes wrong.

It’s not about expecting issues, it’s about being prepared for them.

If you’re planning a golf trip, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is one of the top resorts to consider in Scottsdale.

Located next to TPC Scottsdale, you have direct access to two championship courses, including the Stadium Course that hosts the WM Phoenix Open.

Beyond golf, the resort offers a full luxury experience with multiple pools, high-end dining like Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, and two standout spas, making it easy to balance time on the course with relaxation.

For a more elevated stay, the Privado Villas offer a quieter, more private experience with a dedicated concierge and exclusive pool, while still being connected to everything on property.

For golfers looking to combine great courses with a full resort experience, this is one of the most well-rounded options in Scottsdale.

Honest answer on whether May is worth it for Alaska.

The savings are real. A balcony cabin in May runs a few hundred less per person than the same cabin in July. Ports are quieter. Photography is incredible because of the long shoulder light.

The catch: you’re paying less because conditions are less consistent. Rain is more likely. Some excursions haven’t started yet. Whales are around but the peak is still weeks away.

If you’re going to Alaska for the scenery and the quiet, May is the better trip. If you’re going for the wildlife volume and the kids are out of school, July is worth the markup.

Either is a good trip. They’re different trips.

Save this if Alaska is on your 2027 list.

If you’re looking for Italy but want something less crowded and more local, Sicily has been gaining attention for a reason.

Palermo offers a completely different experience, but where you stay, how you route it, and how you structure your time there all matter more than people expect.

One of our travel advisors, Roxanne, recently designed a custom itinerary for a client traveling through Istanbul, Palermo, and Sorrento, three destinations that each offer something completely unique but were seamlessly connected.

That’s usually the difference between a good trip and a great one.

Spring at TripMatters looks a little different behind the scenes 🌱

While Patti is out building her garden, planting flowers, and getting everything ready for the season, she’s also doing the same thing in a different way at her desk. There’s a level of care, patience, and intention that goes into both.

The same way a garden takes time to grow into something beautiful, the trips we plan don’t just come together overnight. They’re thought through, layered, and built to feel just right.

The perks that come standard when you book through a travel advisor.

Most people don't realize. Cruise lines pay us. You don't.

So when you book with TripMatters, you get the same cruise fare you'd see on the cruise line website. Plus the perks they negotiated for us as a Virtuoso agency. Onboard credit, cabin upgrades when available, comped specialty dining, priority embarkation on certain sailings.

The catch: there isn't one. We get paid by the cruise line after you sail. You get a real person to call when something goes sideways.

Save this for when someone asks why you'd ""bother"" using an advisor.
