🌴 Our journey to Tahiti has officially begun—and getting there was an adventure of its own!

We departed Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) at 4:20 p.m., following a slight delay because our plane arrived late from Minneapolis. With only about an hour between flights at MSP, we made a quick stop at the Delta Sky Club for a bite to eat before heading to LAX.

Our departure from Minneapolis was delayed another 30 minutes when the flight attendants discovered that the cabin door wouldn’t lock. Thankfully, we arrived at LAX only about 10 minutes late—but then the real race began!

Because our Delta and Air Tahiti Nui flights were booked separately, we had to:

🧳 Collect our checked luggage
🚶 Walk through two terminals
✈️ Check in and recheck our bags with Air Tahiti Nui
🔐 Go through TSA again
🏃 Make the 17-minute walk from security to our gate

We normally avoid connections this tight—especially when separate tickets and rechecking luggage are involved. Our original 3½-hour layover had been reduced significantly by Delta’s schedule changes, leaving us very little room for delays.

But we made it! 🙌 We were able to board early so I was able to capture video of the beautiful Air Tahiti Nui aircraft before the other passengers boarded.

There's a bronze fisherman on Brac island that most travelers walk right past. This statue sits at the edge of Bol harbor on the island of Brac, framed by the same limestone cliffs that make Zlatni Rat beach nearby one of the most photographed beaches in the Adriatic. Small ship itineraries can dock right in town, which means harbor views like this one without a long transfer.

This cave in Croatia turns the water electric blue and photos still don't do it justice. The Blue Cave on Bisevo island works because of sunlight refracting through an underwater opening, turning the entire cavern neon blue for a short window depending on the sun angle. Boats time entry around midday for the strongest glow, and it's one of the most photographed stops on a Dalmatian Coast itinerary for a reason.

❗ Many countries impose severe criminal penalties for possessing cannabis or cannabis-derived products. Before you travel, always research local laws and review prohibited items for your destination at travel.state.gov/destination.

❗Even if cannabis is legal or decriminalized where you're going, bringing it or any cannabis-derived products across an international border can result in arrest or other criminal penalties.

❗ Always pack from a completely empty bag. Americans have been arrested after unintentionally bringing cannabis products into another country, including edibles, v**e cartridges, oils, and concentrates. Check all suitcase compartments and pockets carefully before traveling.

What happens if you lose your phone while traveling? Christi recommends adding basic contact information to your lock screen so an honest person can return it—even when your phone is locked.

Include an alternate phone number or email address, such as:

“Lost phone! Please contact Dale at 715-###-###X.”

For safety, avoid displaying your home address, hotel room number, full travel itinerary, or other sensitive information. A trusted travel companion’s number or a separate email address is all you need.
