A group of hippos is called a "bloat" - they are also referred to as a crash, a thunder, or even a pod, to name a few others..

As short legged and plump as they are, hippos can run almost 20 mph, and their jaws open to almost 180 degrees, creating a gape of up to four to five feet. They are one of the most powerful—and surprisingly aggressive animals in all of Africa.

They are also herbivores and spend much of the day submerged in water, sleeping for up to 16 hours to stay cool. As it gets dark, they emerge to graze, often traveling several miles before returning to the water at sunrise.
