Can’t say enough about this guy. I met Erik Schoon back in 2019 when my longtime first mate, Court Watson, headed off to Syracuse University to chase his next chapter. That left some big shoes to fill—but Erik stepped in and quickly proved he was something special in his own right.
From day one, Erik brought the same kind of energy you hope for on the water—he loves life, loves people, and lives for being out there. Over the next three years, he became not just my first mate at Billingsgate Charters, but someone I could always count on—reliable, honest, and as loyal as they come.
At the same time, Erik was building something of his own. His passion led him to create Cape Experiences, built around the idea of “Travel With Purpose.” It’s been great to watch him take that vision and run with it, backed by his roots in Michigan and the support of his family.
The guy just gets it—whether it’s spotting fish, putting clients on them, or doing whatever it takes to get the job done, he’s as good as they come. And even as he’s moved forward chasing his own goals, nothing’s changed when it comes to our friendship. He’s still someone I can call anytime, and he’s always there when it counts.
This photo says it all—just a couple guys having a blast, even when we’re knee-deep in fish and lobster bait.
Grateful for everything he’s brought to the boat, the business, and the friendship.
