Welcome to the first installment of "What is it going to take to get you on your first cruise?"
Because I love to cruise, and because it is my job, I know a little on the subject of what it's like to spend some time on a floating city! This post will be a little long, so if if the content doesn't interest you, you are excused 🤓
I am surprised by some of the misinformation that people have about cruising...In this first post, I would like to address some of these misconceptions with a little truth!
Misconception...I'll get seasick.
Truth...Only about 0.1% of cruise passengers get motion sick. Walk into your kitchen then walk back. Did you get sick? Being on a modern cruise ship is no different. To get motion sick, you need motion. These ships are rock steady. You can't tell you are moving. The only exception is rough seas due to weather, but just like airline pilots, these crews know if there is bad weather and avoid it.
Misconception...They only have fancy restaurants that cost a lot.
Truth...The food on the ship is included. You don't have to pay a penny...I'm talking well appointed dining rooms, waiters, excellent food, table cloths, crystal, the works...every day...all free. Don't even get me stated on the amazing buffets, desserts, and pizza at midnight. Ships do have what are known as specialty restaurants. Some people just want a more exclusive or elevated dining experience. You usually have to make reservations and they do cost extra. Of all the cruises I have been on, I have never tried a specialty restaurant.
Misconception...I will get bored.
Truth...Would 3.7 million people per year go on cruises if they were boring? How boring does swimming, water slides, trivia games, broadway quality shows, live music, ping pong, co****le, basketball, pickleball, casino, nightclubs, dancing, piano bars, karaoke, shopping, and lots more sound? And that is just on sea days. How about new exotic ports in different countries with exciting excursions...Do you still think you will be bored??
That is enough for the first installment. Stay tuned for the next one where we will answer the biggest reason people give for not going..."I can't afford it".
