Looking for natural beauty, island history, a challenging hike, and a lovely quiet beach at the end? Reef Bay Trail is for you! This is where you can find the petroglyphs of St. John, believed to be carved by Taino Indians in pre-Columbus times, and have now become a symbol of St. John. There's also an amazing waterfall, remains of the Reef Bay Sugar Mill, plus educational signage placed by the National Park Service the entire way. It's a fantastic way to spend a day. But I'm warning you now- when they say to bring plenty of water bring double what you originally think you should. That hike back up is no joke, and I consider myself to be a pretty good hiker! Alternatively, at certain times of year you can arrange for the NPS to pick you up on the beach at the end by boat and avoid the long climb back up altogether!
