Thank you CBI (the Netherlands Enterprise Agency) and Acorn Tourism Consulting Limited, for featuring Slow Travel Hue as a best practice for regenerative tourism in Vietnam.

In central Vietnam, Slow Travel Hue offers deep, personal travel experiences co-created with local families and artisans. Activities like cookery, traditional crafts and village walks are slow-paced and reflective. They encourage visitors to engage deeply and respectfully with the people and the place.

Time is treated as a tool. The pace of travel is intentionally slowed, allowing space for dialogue, learning and genuine connection. Hosts are trained to listen, share and co-create experiences rather than simply perform for visitors.

In about ten days more, marks the 23rd of December in the lunar calendar. It’s time for the Kitchen Gods to travel to meet the Jade Emperor. Hopefully, they recorded all your good deeds and kindness over the past year.

On this occasion, let us share with you the colour and vibes from Địa Linh village, popularly known as Kitchen God village or Làng Ông Táo. Once a central factory to produce bricks and quality materials for imperial and government construction, Địa Linh now is the centre of a thriving local craft industry. It produces earthenware amulets of the Kitchen God Ông Táo that are much wanted throughout Vietnam.

Take a stroll to Bao Vinh ancient town, cycling through the craft villages and immerse yourself in the vibes of Tết preparation.

BEYOND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM PRODUCTS

Whenever I see a training or workshop for community-based tourism projects, I feel a quiet discomfort. It is not about the content, but the context.

Too often, experts arrive to teach communities how to serve tourists, without first asking:

👍 What are you eager to share? How do you like to host?

Local women, farmers, and elders are positioned as learners, rather than keepers of savoir-faire.

Instead, when we begin collaborating with a family, our first question is always:

What is special about your home, your garden, your village? 👏

Then we share what our typical travellers are seeking, and ask: Can we co-create something together and see? 🤝

At Slow Travel Hue, we sometimes receive requests like serving margarita at a home meal, or staging a “royal dinner” in a local house. We gently refuse. Our host families are happy to share their everyday life, just as it is.

Our role is not to invent, but to help them represent what already exists, what they do best, what comes naturally. Sometimes a small adjustment is needed, but only if it is doable and affordable. That is where we step in, hands in hand, one guest at a time.

💚 With time, understanding unfolds, and self-esteem grows.

💚 The community’s responsibility is to keep diving into their own social and cultural context, amplifying what makes them proud.

💚 The social entrepreneur’s mission is to carry these offerings into the world, and to find conscious travellers who can truly appreciate local flavors and indigenous ways of living.

No fixed agenda. No one-off community training. Only continuous learning, shared pride, and authenticity.

Together, we are not trying to sell “sustainable tourism products.”

We are learning to practice regenerative hospitality.

At Slow Travel Hue, the journey is not about sightseeing, but about life-sharing.

Some partners and collaborators, when first joining our immersion in Tam Giang Lagoon, commented: “The fishing part could be more exciting. We explained a lot, but we did not catch many fish.”

Yet the purpose was never about fishing. It was about understanding the lives of these “fish-tail chasers”. We longed instead for their stories: how life once was, and how it is now. That's what we mean by naming "Tam Giang Lagoon Survival".

If we truly wished for a good harvest, we would need to join them at three or four in the morning. And even then, there are good seasons and bad seasons.

One thing, however, is certain: the sincerity of these farmers, fishermen and joy of life are abundant, if we choose to be fully present - open to connection, to sharing, and to appreciating one another.

We hope that you, as travellers, will also share your own life perspectives with us, as we sail gently in the same boat on peaceful Tam Giang Lagoon, the largest lagoon system in South-East Asia.

What if every immersion were an invitation to be fully present, and every encounter a gentle reminder that “we need two to know one”?

becomes a journey of intention, inspiring other ways of knowing, of being, of living.

Ứng xử với điều bất ngờ bằng sự tận tâm và thiện ý

Những ngày này, du khách xem tin tức, thấp thỏm vì thời tiết.
- Đối tác hỏi: Có hủy miễn phí được không?
- Khách vẫn muốn đi, nhưng không khỏi lo: Lỡ trời mưa thì sao?

Rất nhiều câu hỏi dồn về từ khách hàng, từ đối tác, từ chính cộng sự nhà Slow.
Và Slow Travel Huế chỉ có một câu trả lời:

Bọn mình chọn thực hành du lịch trải nghiệm chuyên sâu ở Huế là mong hiểu xứ sở như bàn tay mình, vì thương từng con người, nếp nhà, từng khúc sông như hơi thở.

Không chỉ gọi điện, bọn mình đến tận nơi: thăm hỏi “nước vô ngang mô, lụt lội O, Bác ăn uống ra răng”, đi lại đường làng, kiểm tra bến thuyền, ngó qua chợ quê.

Nước rút chưa? Bùn còn không? Có sạch, có an toàn để đạp xe, đi bộ không?
Tất cả đều phải tận mắt nhìn, tận tay chạm và cảm.

Rồi bọn mình nói thật: những gì đã qua, những gì đang đến, và những gì có thể xảy ra. Lời khuyên phải đúng, phải trọn, cả niềm tin lẫn rủi ro.

Một đoàn lớn vào nhà cổ trải nghiệm “bữa cơm Huế” truyền thống là thắng lợi chung, nhưng niềm vui ấy không bao giờ đánh đổi sự an toàn và bình yên của ai cả.
Nếu khách còn lo lắng, bọn mình sẵn sàng hủy tour miễn phí.

Còn khi khách chọn tiếp tục hành trình, cả cộng đồng lại tự nhắc nhau:

Hãy đón khách bằng tấm lòng. 👌

Linh hoạt, điều chỉnh, xoay trở, để chuyến đi vẫn tròn đầy, dù phải thêm công, thêm việc, thêm chi phí.

Đây không phải quy định một người đặt ra mà là cách sống, cách làm đã nuôi dưỡng đội ngũ và cộng đồng chúng mình bao năm qua.

Ông Bà trong bức ảnh dưới đây từng rất lo vì nước lũ, một tuần trước khi đến miền Trung. Bọn mình chủ động chia sẻ những lựa chọn có thể.

Hôm qua, họ đi tour trải nghiệm đầm phá Tam Giang. Trời mưa.

🍀 Bọn mình chuyển sang kế hoạch B: về làng Thanh Tiên làm hoa giấy, thăm làng, gặp người nông dân hiền hòa.

🍀 Bữa trưa từ vườn đến bàn ăn “farm-to-table”, thêm phần ấm áp bên ấm trà nhìn ra sân vườn xanh cây lá.

🍀 Bọn mình kể những câu chuyện về trận lụt 1999, về khu vườn từng tả tơi, rồi hồi sinh, rồi tiếp tục xanh tốt với một sứ mệnh mới.

Giây phút ấy, sự kết nối hiện lên sinh động hơn bất kỳ cảnh đẹp nào: người gặp người, lòng chạm lòng. Khách không còn là “đến để tiêu thụ”, mà là “đến để hiểu và sẻ chia”.

Khoảnh khắc đó, ý nghĩa của chuyến trải nghiệm tự nhiên hé mở - bắt rễ trong sự tôn trọng, trách nhiệm và có qua có lại.

Đi du lịch không chỉ để nhìn thế giới, mà để thế giới chạm vào mình, cùng nhau chuyển hóa.

𝗗𝘂 𝗹ị𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗴 để 𝗰𝗵à𝗼 𝗺ừ𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗴à𝘆 𝘁𝗵ế 𝗴𝗶ớ𝗶 𝘁ử 𝘁ế 💚

Đại hồng thủy đã qua. Trên khắp xứ Huế, cuộc sống đang dần trở lại bình thường. Trong những thời khắc đầy khó khăn ấy, vô vàn hành động tử tế đã lan tỏa.

☘ Những hàng xe tải chở đầy lương thực, quần áo, đồ dùng học tập nối dài hướng về các vùng bị ngập để hỗ trợ những gia đình khó khăn.

☘ Các nhóm tình nguyện trong và ở các tỉnh lân cận nhanh chóng tổ chức sửa chữa hàng ngàn chiếc xe máy bị ngập nước, miễn phí và ở các điểm tiện lợi nhất.

☘ Các đội bay drone vận chuyển hàng cứu trợ đến những vùng sâu, vùng cô lập.

☘ Các đội thuyền cao su, mô-tô nước, ca nô từ nhiều nơi đổ về hỗ trợ sơ tán người dân bị mắc kẹt bằng tiếng gọi của tình thương.

☘ Mỗi người đều có điều gì đó để sẻ chia, và tinh thần tập thể ấy như một “đàn én xanh” của lòng nhân ái, cũng hợp cùng hòa, thật đẹp và lay động.

🤗 Còn Du Lịch thì sao?

Là những người làm du lịch hay du khách, chúng ta có thể góp phần giảm thiểu tác hại của thiên tai như thế nào?

Bọn mình đã lắng nghe, nhiều vị khách vẫn chọn đến Huế, dù biết rằng hành trình hay cảnh sắc sau lụt sẽ không rực rỡ. Để rồi họ trở về với trái tim hân hoan, gửi lại lời nhắn cho công ty lữ hành:

“Chào buổi sáng. Chuyến đạp xe rất tuyệt. Không còn ngập lụt. Hướng dẫn viên rất xuất sắc. Trải nghiệm thật đẹp, đặc biệt là khi được gặp gỡ gia đình địa phương.” 👏

Hôm qua, bọn mình đón một đoàn khách Pháp lớn tuổi, những giáo sư và tiến sĩ, thong d**g trải nghiệm tại làng Thủy Biều. Đoàn khách đạp xe quanh làng, có người chọn đi bộ thong thả hơn 3km.

💚 Thay vì hỏi thực đơn có gì, họ quan tâm đến cách người dân địa phương vượt qua trận lũ. Cùng nhau, họ chuẩn bị những món ăn dân dã nhưng tinh tế, từ các loại rau thơm hái trong vườn.

💚 Thay vì than phiền phong cảnh không còn xanh mướt, họ vui mừng khi thấy chú trâu yên bình trên mảnh ruộng. Đất đang nghỉ ngơi, phù sa bù đắp sẽ cho lại vụ mùa tốt tươi.

💚 Thay vì chụp ảnh, họ lặng lẽ quan sát từ xa, mãn nguyện khi thấy các em nhỏ trở lại lớp trong những bộ quần áo sạch sẽ, khô ráo.

Họ không đến để được phục vụ, mà để được sống trong những câu chuyện, nơi lòng kiên cường và niềm lạc quan của người dân được hồi sinh.

Mỗi người đều có điều gì đó để sẻ chia. Du lịch có ý thức sẽ tạo ra những tác động bền vững.

Với những người làm du lịch, bọn mình xin mời bạn cùng lan tỏa một hành động tử tế: hãy tin tưởng và trân trọng lòng hiếu khách địa phương, và cùng suy ngẫm:

Tôi (chúng ta) có thể đóng góp gì tốt hơn cho con người, vùng đất và thiên nhiên nơi mình ghé thăm?

Đôi khi, chỉ cần dành thêm một chút thời gian để du khách được chậm lại, được hòa mình theo dòng chảy tự nhiên, đã là một hành động tử tế rồi.
