Ondela is helping shape how Africa’s tourism story is told.

This Women’s Month, we celebrate Ondela as a champion in the tourism industry who puts Africa’s people, heritage and future at the centre of the conversation. An advocate for spreading the message that how we tell Africa’s story matters.

Across East Africa's coast, a changing ocean is testing old ways of life, and inspiring new ones. In Malindi, Kenya, a 30-member women's self-help group called ReSea is restoring mangrove forests and building an ecotourism business, turning conservation into a source of income and independence.

From a mangrove nursery to a beachfront restaurant still under construction, these women are reshaping what resilience looks like on Kenya's coastline.

This Women's Month, we're celebrating the women leading Africa's conservation story forward.

For 11 years, Megan has helped build WTM Africa into what it is today.

This Women’s Month, we celebrate a leader who understands that the strength of any event lies in its people. Meg leads through collaboration, trust and empathy, while creating space for her team to grow, contribute and succeed.

Megan’s impact goes far beyond producing successful events. It is seen in the people she develops, the teams she strengthens and the opportunities she helps create.

In South Africa, we mark August a little differently.

While women are celebrated around the world in many ways, August holds a special place in South African history. It honours the more than 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in a powerful stand for freedom, dignity and equality.

Today, Women’s Month is not only a moment of remembrance. It is a reminder of the role women continue to play in shaping stronger, more inclusive economies.

Across Africa’s tourism industry, women are leading as entrepreneurs, guides, hoteliers, conservationists, storytellers, destination marketers, community builders and decision-makers.

Their work moves people, protects places, creates opportunities and helps shape the future of African travel.

This August, we honour the women who paved the way and celebrate the women moving tourism forward today.
