Global capital is entering a new allocation cycle.

Investment is increasingly flowing into infrastructure, technology, energy transition, and long-term real asset platforms. The focus is shifting from short-term growth to scalability, efficiency, and resilience across cycles.

For Africa, this shift is significant. The continent is becoming more strategic in global investment flows, but capital is now more selective — prioritising structured, bankable, and well-executed opportunities.

The opportunity is clear, but so is the expectation: readiness and ex*****on now define competitiveness.

Tourism investment depends on many factors—from air connectivity and economic stability to international arrivals, hotel capacity, and visitor spending. As global tensions shift investment patterns, destinations with strong fundamentals and clear tourism identities will rise to the top.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, countries that highlight wildlife, ecotourism, and strong national branding are especially well placed to attract new tourism investment. Keeping a strong focus on destination management and brand building will be essential for the opportunities ahead.https://live.worldtourismforum.net/uploads/World%20Tourism%20Investment%20Index%20-%202025.pdf

The Gulf war has shaken global stability - but the deepest impact is human. Lives lost. Families displaced. Communities hurting. We must hold space for that.
This conflict is also reshaping global investment flows. Capital won’t retreat; it will redirect.
Africa’s tourism sector has an opening to step forward with:
Stability
Resilience
Sustainable growth
Compassion
Opportunity must walk hand in hand with humanity. Africa can rise with both.

The conflict in the Gulf has erupted at a time when global investment flows were only beginning to recover. But before we talk economics, it’s important to acknowledge the human reality: people are suffering. Families have been uprooted, lives have been lost, and communities are facing trauma that will last for generations. Our reflections must be grounded in empathy.
The war is reshaping how investors think about risk and stability. Transport disruptions, rising insurance costs and energy volatility are already influencing global decisions. Capital is not disappearing — it is shifting.
For Africa’s tourism sector, this moment brings both challenges and opportunities:
• Countries that demonstrate stability and strong governance can attract investment redirected from conflict affected regions. • Diversified tourism markets and strong domestic travel bases become valuable assets. • Business events and MICE tourism may increasingly look to Africa. • Energy volatility strengthens the case for sustainable tourism infrastructure.
Africa must respond with both strategic clarity and compassion. Our opportunity is not to benefit from another region’s pain, but to strengthen our own resilience while standing in solidarity with those suffering the horrors of war.
Tourism investment will follow confidence and humanity. Africa can lead with both.

Big news for tourism investment in Africa!

UNCTAD’s latest World Investment Report reminds us that investment is more than money—it shows what we value and where we see future potential.

Angola has just taken a major step by allocating US$530 million to develop a world‑class tourism hub in Cabo Ledo, a beautiful coastal area south of Luanda. This funding will support essential infrastructure like roads, water, sanitation, energy and telecoms—creating the foundation for hotels, resorts, adventure tourism and community development.

From 18–19 February, Angola’s Ministry of Tourism will be in South Africa meeting with potential investors.

If you’re in the tourism sector and want to explore opportunities in one of Africa’s most promising destinations, register to join the executive briefing sessions:
