Spanish Dancer
Hexabranchus sanguineus

Reaching sizes of at least 16 inches (40 cm), the Spanish dancer is the largest nudibranch and one of the largest sea slugs on the planet. Like most nudibranchs, the Spanish dancer is brightly colored and does not blend in well with its surroundings. This bright coloration, similar to that of the poison dart frogs and many other species, serves as a warning to potential predators that the Spanish dancer does not taste good and may even make a predator sick.

Though this species spends most of its time crawling along the reef surface, it will swim when threatened, violently flapping its external gills and other appendages and displaying its brightest warning colors. This behavior reminded some observers of a flamenco dancer, earning the Spanish dancer its common name.

Spanish dancers are specialized predators that prefer to eat sponges and concentrate compounds found in their prey to provide their own chemical defense and defense for their eggs. Like other nudibranchs, Spanish dancers are simultaneous hermaphrodites; all individuals are both male and female. Individuals cannot self fertilize, however, and they always require a mate. Once eggs are deposited on the reef surface, neither parent provides care. The eggs do contain a dose of the defense chemicals that the adults use to ward of predation, and they are brightly colored, an attempt to warn potential egg predators of this defense

With our trips well underway and as we approach the final countdown to your very own trip with Red Sea Jol here are -

10 things you wish you knew before your liveaboard diving holiday.

Follow these tips for the best Red Sea liveaboard holiday

Standing on the bow of the boat with the sea breeze blowing through your hair and the smell of salt water – The Red Sea liveaboard diving holiday is an experience, you will never forget. Travelling to a destination like the Red Sea not only offers the best diving to those exclusively famous dive spots but it also offers clear, calm waters that you can explore from our very own vessel. Wreck dives, night dives and drop-offs as deep as eternity. Sometimes travelling can be daunting – there’s no need to stress as we think back on some tips on how to get through it as easily as possible:

1. Pack Light– When packing your clothes it important to remember that less is more. On a Red Sea liveaboard, generally you will spend most of the trip lounging around on the deck in shorts and a shirt. Paradise. Recommended attire being light cotton clothes, sarongs, swim suits and easy to dry clothing. Bring a long sleeve top as it can get chilly in the air-conditioned areas. The sun can be very strong so pack your hats, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen. Pack your own toiletries sufficient for the week. Towels are provided onboard.

2. Dive Gear – Leave the extras behind. Cylinders and weights are all available on the boat. The water temperature ranges from 25-30 degrees so pack a light wetsuit, skinsuit, shorty or rash vest. Each diver is to have their own SMB (Surface Marker Buoy) with a reel, dive light and dive computer. Minimise the amount of occupied space by packing a soft dive bag that can be stored, rather than a big bulky box. You should bring your diving and nitrox c-cards. Your DAN insurance should be up to date. If you have any medical concerns – a medical clearance claiming you are fit to dive is required from your physician and the relevant Medical form is to be filled and stamped. A note for photographers – charging points are 2 point plugs.

3. Wrap your Bags – EgyptAir check-in opens 3 hours before the flight (Terminal B departures) and they provide the wrapping for free. Make sure you weigh the bag before wrapping as the allowance is 2x 23kgs checked luggage. The luggage final destination is Hurghada. Do not pack any batteries in your carry-on, there is a good chance they will be confiscated in Cairo. Restrictions on flammables and liquids as per airport guidelines. No helicopter/drones/lazer pointers/electronic flight simulators are allowed.

4. Fill in the arrival information card on the plane – Towards the end of the flight, cabin members will come around with an arrival card to fill in. It will be handed into Immigration for all non-egyptian arrivals – this will save time between transit Cairo to Hurghada. This will also minimise the stress of moving through to the next destination.

5. Pack a set of extras in your hand luggage – It takes time for a groups checked in luggage to move to the boat. Pack an extra set of swimmers and shorts so you are not stuck desperately looking to change out of those hot uncomfortable long pants.

6. Don’t drink the Water – You should always stick to filtered water, even when brushing your teeth. There are ample water points on the boat where you can fill up a bottle – also ensure that you stay well hydrated throughout the trip.

7. Tummy bugs and Ear ache – We don’t want you to skip out on any dives, so pay close attention to your ears. The water is tropical and full of microbes so rinse out your ears after every dive with room temperature water. Pay attention to your tummy, as soon as you feel something is a bit rumbly – alert the crew. Dive guides have a great stock of medicines so prevention is better than cure.

8. Toilet troubles – On any boat it is a big no-no to discard paper down the toilet. Waste bins are provided and serviced regularly. Discarded toilet paper ends up on the reef and has a negative impact on the beautiful reefs below.

9. Medication & First Aid – Blisters from fins, nicks and cuts can be annoying, so having a antiseptic on hand is a good idea. A small stock of seasickness medicine, immodium and swimmers ear (Swim Seal) could be needed. If you do take prescription medicine it is very important to declare it to the dive leader.

10. Have a good time – When arriving in Hurghada, you will arrive at the domestic but you need to collect the luggage from International arrivals. Please do not exit the terminal as you will not be allowed back in. A Red Sea Jol representative will be there to es**rt you to the correct terminal to collect bags. In case of missing luggage you will fill in a form with the boat’s information. Address: M/Y Blue Pearl, Hurghada New Marina, Telephone +201118229997. The representative will then take you to the bus and onwards to the Red Sea liveaboard boat – eat, dive, sleep, repeat. Easy peasy!

How many dives can YOU do in 1 week?

At Red Sea Jol have changed the way liveaboard should be to the one and we offer not 5... not 6 days but 7 days of diving!

That means a bonus night dive, more wrecks, more morning dives and no time sitting on a boat in the port waiting for supplies.

Don't let anyone cheat you out of your dives. We at Red Sea Jol offer more more more!

The Diving with Red Sea Jol.
Diving from a liveaboard gives you access to dive spots many other boats cannot venture.
7 days of diving (Seven… count it 1,2,3,4,5,6….7 days!) in the crystal clear waters of Red Sea diving, warm waters with endless visibility.

Hmmm, so we need some super juice for all these dives… lets add in some FREE nitrox included to every dive.

Experience the world class reefs of the Red Sea, you can see starting just below the water surface all the way to drop offs to 100m, Famous shipwrecks, and fantastic coral reefs bursting with colour, beautiful pink soft corals, massive plate coral and long outstretching whip corals home of the big scholing snappers, jackfish, Tuna, Turtles, large Napoleon Wrasse and Lionfish. Coral Gardens and shallower reefs provide a shelter for dolphins to play.

Our experienced dive guides focus on smaller groups, a slower pace, no currents and more detail to attention.

On the sand blue spotted rays hide themselves, garden eels stretch out, Gobies protect their homes while the blind shrimp, keeping a feeler on his guard, shovels out sand. The sea is a hub of activity from candy coloured antheas, carpeted soft corals, large majestic gorgonians and glowing anenomes are stretched all along the reef.

Night Diving
Offering something special, once the sun has gone down, the nightlife underwater is an attraction not to be missed. In starry luminescent water, nocturnal hunting from small morays, cuttlefish displaying their flashing lights and a very special spanish dancer showing off her flamenco dress as she moves in the water, makes for a great night time dive.

Red Sea jol 2023 north and dahab

we at Red sea jol always choose the best itineraries ,, and offer you the best diving
we offer North and Dahab .. where u can dive the best of the northern wrecks and reefs and Tiran and all the way to Dahab
Dahab diving is fantastic and here is one of the most beautiful dive spots when u do north and Dahab trip
Gabr el Bint
ranks among one of the most attractive sites of North Sinai. With the access by boat, 4x4 or by camel, it is less frequently dived than the other dive sites in Dahab which has left this site in pristine condition. Gabr el Bint means 'The Grave of the Girl' in Arabic. There are two dives possible here. The right side, also known as the dark side, features a steep wall that drops down to about 60m cut by numerous chasms, sandy ravines and overhangs. The drop-off is adorned with healthy table corals. The left side is a far more colourful featuring a virtual forest of gorgonians. Usually drop down to about 20-25m swimming along massive boulders protruding from the drop-off which attracts dense shoals of anthias and glassfish. Keep a good eye on the blue where you will see trevallies hunting on the shoals of fusiliers. After about ten minutes you will find some of the healthiest gorgonian fan corals in the Red Sea. Here you start to ascend to about 10m and cross the saddle then start to head back along a sandy ledge which parallels to the shore. The ledge is riddled with exquisite coral heads that attract numerous reef species, including swarms of anthias, scorpionfish, parrotfish, crocodile fish, surgeonfish, triggerfish, trumpetfish, stingrays and very often a turtle. At the end of the ledge usually is home to a shoal of black and white snappers and twinspot snappers hang here between 5m and 10m. One of the truly breathtaking dives in Dahab.

// STATUES //
The SS Thistlegorm set sail on her fourth and final voyage from Glasgow destined for Alexandria, Egypt. The vessel’s cargo included: Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier armoured vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammunition, 0.303 rifles as well as radio equipment, Wellington boots, aircraft parts, railway wagons and two LMS Stanier Class 8F steam locomotives. The cargo was for the Allied forces in Egypt. At 01:30 on 6 October 1941 she was hit by two bombs dropped by the Luftwaffe. Today she is said to bring more revenue in tourism to Egypt than the pyramids. Here a Fordson WOT3 Truck takes you back in time, with a lonely Wellington boot on the hood. Taken on assignment in the Red Sea for Red Sea Jol.
