LAST CHANCE! A CHARMING CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT AT GLENSHIEL THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON

For the first time, acclaimed Italian-Egyptian pianist Francesca Khalifa brings her artistry to South Africa as part of the much-loved Recitals at Glenshiel series on Sunday, 14 June. Khalifa is renowned for her expressive interpretations of classical masterworks, and the afternoon programme Intimations promises a journey through Bach, Haydn, Schumann and Saint-Saëns in the elegant surroundings of historic Glenshiel.

Adding to the occasion, the concert will be opened by talented young musician Matthew Johnston, continuing the series' commitment to supporting emerging performers. Tickets include light refreshments served during the interval.

SEE WHAT YOU MISSED AT THE JO'BURG COFFEE FESTIVAL

We’re still thinking of the recent Jo’burg Coffee Festival, which spanned the rooftop space of Fourways Mall. It was a truly one-of-a-kind chill zone where coffee aficionados could immerse themselves in highly respected artisanal roasters, gadgets, free cupping, and meet the brilliant minds that are pushing coffee culture forward in South Africa.

“This was a record breaking weekend all round, and we couldn’t be happier with the turnout, the feedback and the incredible atmosphere throughout the event,’ says event organiser, Jason Zeeman. ‘More than 12,000 cups of coffee were served, countless bags of beans found new homes, and thousands of coffee lovers immersed themselves in South Africa’s vibrant coffee culture. To everyone who joined us and kept our Sample Bar & Event floor buzzing all weekend, thank you. We can’t wait to see you again in 2027, Jo’burg!”

We’re also big fans of the team’s decision to spotlight roasteries from Joburg and around the country such as Bean There, Naked Coffee and Cedar Coffee Roasters who keep the indie vein thriving, and tipping a hat to the proudly South African coffee chains such as Bootlegger, Seattle Coffee, and Vida e Caffe who all started small and today boast a their wide network of shops across the country.

ON STAGE THIS WEEKEND: A POCKET MUSICAL LIFTS THE MASK OF CHARLIE CHAPLIN

Make sure you see The Tramp, an intimate Naledi Award-winning mini-musical that revisits the extraordinary life of legendary filmmaker and comedian Charlie Chaplin through the eyes of his most famous creation, the Little Tramp. The show forms part of a special Youth Day weekend double bill presented by Wela Kapela Productions.
Expect moments of comedy, heartbreak and reflection as the story follows Chaplin's rise to global stardom and the challenges that shaped his legacy. The Tramp runs at Redhill Theatre in Morningside on 13 and 14 June.
