We don't travel to escape life. We travel to remember how extraordinary it can be.

To watch the sun rise over an African wilderness.
To hear nothing but birdsong and the distant call of the wild.
To share a sunset with someone special.
To dine beneath a sky filled with stars.
To slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with what matters most.

The greatest luxury isn't found in things.

It's found in moments.

The moments that stay with us long after we've returned home.

Where will your next unforgettable moment take you?

Not all of Africa’s greatest predators have fur and sharp teeth.

The Secretarybird is one of Southern Africa’s most fascinating hunters — a powerful bird of prey that stalks the savanna on foot and is famous for hunting snakes with lightning-fast strikes.

Tall, elegant, and unmistakable, sightings of these remarkable birds are always a safari highlight.

Most people think an African safari is about seeing animals.

But somewhere between the sunrise game drives, the silence of the bush, the sound of hippos outside your room, and watching elephants walk past just meters away, something shifts.

Africa slows you down.
It reconnects you with nature, with people, and often with parts of yourself you forgot were there.

At OWL Safaris, every journey is personally designed from first-hand experience, with conservation, meaningful travel, and authentic connection at its heart.

If Africa has been sitting on your “one day” list, maybe this is your sign.

One of the most striking birds you can encounter in South Luangwa National Park is the carmine bee-eater.

With its vivid pink plumage, turquoise accents, and sleek, elegant shape, it is one of Africa’s most visually spectacular birds. These birds are especially abundant along the Luangwa River, where they gather in large colonies during the dry season.

They nest in sandy riverbanks, digging long tunnels into the soft earth, and can often be seen flying in coordinated groups as they catch insects mid-air. Their presence brings a vivid splash of colour and movement to the riverine landscape and is one of the true highlights of a safari in Zambia.

The carmine bee-eater is found in different parts of Africa depending on the season. They breed in large colonies along major river systems such as the Luangwa River in Zambia, the Zambezi River system in Zambia and Zimbabwe, and parts of Botswana. In the non-breeding season, they migrate widely across central and eastern Africa, and can also be seen in countries such as Namibia, Tanzania, Mozambique, and even as far as Kenya.

South Luangwa is one of the best places to witness them in large, active breeding colonies, making it a standout destination for bird lovers and safari travelers alike.
