One fascinating fact about baby nyala calves is that they spend their first 2–3 weeks of life hidden in dense vegetation instead of following their mother.

During this time:
-The mother visits only a few times a day to nurse.
-The calf stays almost perfectly still and relies on its spotted, striped coat for camouflage. By minimizing movement and scent, the calf greatly reduces its chances of being detected by predators such as leopards and hyenas.
