*Secretary Bird*

You don't have to be a birder to appreciate these creatures. The secretary bird is a hunter of snakes and they use their long legs and stomp on them. Keep a lookout for these wonderful birds on your next safari!

*Black-backed Jackal*

One of Africa's most resourceful and widespread predators the Jackal is often a part of every safari and on every landscape in some form. They are very territorial and work incredibly well as a mated pair. This individual keeps a close eye on Daniella from a termite mound vantage point.

*Batis Nest*

Nature, in general, is an incredibly fascinating place and as one starts to learn and see the deeper aspects of the outdoors you quickly realize that the more you know the more you understand how little you are and how complex and vast the natural world is. The tiniest creatures can often be some of the most interesting and have the neatest of behaviors.

The Chin-spot Batis is no exception. The Batis which is a small bird common in Sub Saharan Africa builds a very intricate camouflaged nest using elements of its surroundings to hide it from would-be predators! In the photo notice the lichen that has been peeled of the surrounding branches to blend the nest perfectly into its surroundings. Lichen is common in Vachellia Woodlands.

Jackals will often steal small bits to eat from larger predators kills. Jackals will work together as a team and co-ordinate to get the most out of a meal one stands watch while the other snatches a bite to eat :)

We are so excited for our guest, who is headed to South Africa for a photographic safari with C.U.Safaris trip planner and expedition leader Nick Kleer.

*Prince of cats*

There is something truly regal about the prince of cats. A mysterious yet confident predator that is often closer than you think. A leopard can disappear with ease when it wants to and there is nothing you can do about it. A Leopard can be frustratingly elusive and hard to pin down but there are times when a leopard shows its beauty to all the world, and we seize these moments with open arms because who knows when we will get such an opportunity again?

*Misty Mornings*

On this particular day, we woke up to a misty morning. I love misty mornings! Your smell improves because of the cool temperatures and moisture in the air. The smell may not seem like a big deal, but when you are outside with the abiotic and the biotic it is a sensory experience to behold! There is often a "quietness" that comes over the bush that is often burnt away by the sun. In that brief hour or so you get before the cloud rises over-head you are in a surreal blanket of calm.

*Juvenile Raptors*

Young raptors are notoriously hard to identify, they all look remarkably similar to one another. One often has to look very carefully to start to see the adult traits barely visible, the eyes, the legs, the tail features the way the birds posture looks at rest, all give away subtle clues. This Pale Chanting Goshawk is no different, the adult in a beautiful striking bird but the juveniles are hard to identify.
