Every now and then you come across a place, where the moment you arrive you feel comfortable, and relaxed. You want to kick off your shoes, grab a book and a good glass of wine, and simply be.
The Coot Club in Stanford, on the Hermanus Lagoon a mere two hours out of Cape Town is one of these places. Exceptional!

Traveling in style to our glorious Mother City
We always love visiting Cape Town, even if it's only for a couple of days. In 48 hours we had breakfast in Stellenbosch, sundowners on Llandudno Beach, drove across Chapmans Peak and enjoyed lunch in the quaint suburb of Noordhoek, and hiked up Lion's Head, which is not for the faint hearted, but so worth the while.
Without any doubt the most comfortable and convenient way to travel from Johannesburg is by private aircraft. Something (unfortunately 😉) we do not get to do very often. But, thanks to Cardinal Air Services, this time we travelled in style. Highly recommended!

Bush & Beach at its BEST
I just returned from a 9-day trip, exploring the real bush & beach experience.
Combining the Greater Kruger with the Bazaruto Archipelago is easy as can be with the direct Airlink flight from Kruger KMIA to Vilankulo in Mozambique.
We had the most outstanding safari at Serondella in Thornybush (the lodge is out of this world !) with big game literally awaiting us at every corner. 5 different leopard in one day, leopard mating, big pride of lion, wild dog hunting - with hyena waiting for the leftovers, lots of rhino, a herd about 30 elephant at the watering hole right in front of the lodge, the list goes on and on).
From KMIA it's a 50 minute flight to Vilanculo, the gateway to paradise. Crystal clear waters, fine white sandy beaches, and snorkelling which - in my opinion - can compete with the Seychelles and the Great Barrier Reef.
Superb accommodation at Santorini on the mainland ( they have hospitality down to a fine art), or on Benguerra Island a 10 minute helicopter hop away. We stayed at Azura and And Beyond Benguerra, both fabulous in their own way.
We even managed to see a Dugong a few times (google it, it's a fascinating sea creature, extremely rare, therefore also called " the Pangolin of the Sea"...)

Thaba, the orphaned rhino needs your help!

3 month old Thaba was orphaned in June 2022, when his mom was killed by poachers. He was rescued and flown to the HESC in Hoedspruit (where our adopted cheetah Alpha lives very happily), where he is now getting all the care and attention he deserves!

Please check out the link for the full story and how you can help. Thank you!!

Kenya is definitely a fabulous year-round safari destination, not only during the Great Migration!
After a week spent in Laikipia and the Greater Masai Mara, I am once again blown away by the beauty of the country, the genuine friendliness of the people, and the outstanding safaris in spite of an extended drought in Laikipia and plenty rain (unusually late) in the Mara.

Another crazy year, full of ups and downs, lies behind us. Although traveling wasn't made easy, we still managed to welcome many guests, who braved PCR tests, and long flights wearing masks. Thank you to all of you, you kept us going!

A dear friend sent me this line the other day, to remind me why I am still so passionate about what I do, in spite of the challenging past two years:
TRAVEL (trav-uhl) noun; the only thing you buy that makes you richer.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a great start to 2022. May it be a year filled with many exciting journeys!

After travelling three continents in 10 days, I have learnt some very important lessons about traveling during a global pandemic:

• Responsible, safe travel is very much possible. All travellers we met were extremely disciplined. Once we arrived at the destination, we were moving in sanitized vehicles, and stayed at small properties, which – again – followed all the rules and regulations to a tee.
• Many governments seem to be caught in a time warp and still don’t realize that the SA variant is not the boogie man. My husband, who is on a South African passport, although obviously traveling with a negative PCR test, was treated like a pariah in Frankfurt.
• The sooner we get a global vaccine passport to allow vaccinated people to travel freely, without endless PCR tests and quarantines, the better. Not only is this the logical thing to do, it would also encourage more people to get the vaccine.
• PCR tests are stupidly overpriced. If you end up paying 150 EUR / USD per test, and you need one every time you enter or leave a country, it very quickly adds up to an insane sum. We all know theses tests only cost a couple of Dollars. Why don’t governments globally ensure that they are available at a fair cost, to encourage responsible travel?

Yes, the constant testing and completing of forms is a big pain in the neck, but my family agrees that it was all so worth it!

Let's travel, responsibly!

Victoria Falls vaccinating towards recovery!

In a unique approach to become COVID-free and encourage the recovery of tourism, the government of Zimbabwe have prioritised the tourism sector, and in particular Victoria Falls, to get vaccinated in phase two of their vaccination roll out campaign - a policy that could see Victoria Falls become the first City in the World to become vaccine compliant.

On Monday 22nd March, a mass roll out vaccination programme began in the City of Victoria Falls, where all adults 18 years and above (except pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers) would be granted access to free vaccinations of the Sinopharm vaccine, in an effort to protect the residents of Victoria Falls, build confidence in regional and international traveller markets, and see the recovery of tourism to Zimbabwe.

Fabulous news, without any doubt a big step in the right direction!
Time to visit one of our favourite places close to Victoria Falls: Matetsi River Lodge. See for yourself!
