A lot of people drowned simply because they didn't know:
If you find yourself underwater in a car, don't panic.

đź”´1. Dont waste your energy trying to push the door

đźź 2. Do not open the window, the force of the water entering the car will not allow you to get out

🟡3. Take out the head rest

🟢4. Use the steel sharp tip and break the back window that has kick out glass on it.

🔵The car by engineering and design is intended to float in the water and the rear window will always be facing the exit.

🟣This could save your life.

It’s simple: If you’re driving less than 15 000km a year, you could save up to 20% on your insurance premium with Smart Park cover, brought to you by Santam. Because if your car’s
spending more time at home, you should be spending less on your premium.

How does it work?
Your premium discount will be based on kilometres predicted
to be travelled within your annual policy renewal period and
a percentage discount will be granted within each of the following kilometre categories:

0 – 5 000 km - pa
5 000 – 10 000 km -pa
10 000 – 15 000 km - pa

In order to qualify, you must supply your odometer reading
along with your predicted kilometre category for the year ahead.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO THE POLICY HOLDER

1. Sum Insured
This is an important aspect and is your responsibility that it
is correctly recorded.

2. Cover
Make sure that the item is insured for the correct purpose
e.g. vehicle can be insured comprehensively, third party fire
& theft or third party only. Audio equipment, alloy wheels,
smash n grab, tow hitch, bull bars, canopy etc can be insured
separately as specified accessories.

3. Security
The policy contract clearly states the minimum requirements, e.g. burglar proofing, security gates, linked alarm or VESA immobilizers, tracking devices, etc. Please ensure that you prescribe to these requirements. NB.: Tracking devices in cars should be tested at least once in six months and proof of installation sent to your Broker.

4. Change of Address
This is vital, change of address must be forwarded immediately as well as security and overnight parking facilities at the address.

5. Valuation certificates
Must be forwarded when certain items are placed on cover or any item is valued at R10 000 or more under all risks section and R25 000 or more under house contents.

6. Claims
Claims must be reported within 30 days. If a third party is involved and you, as the insured, did not sustain loss or damage, the incident must still be reported. Report to the SAPS within 24 hours.

7. Driver
It is of utmost importance that the insurer knows who the regular driver is and where the vehicle is kept overnight but anyone may drive your vehicle, with your permission, as long as they have a valid driver’s license and are aware of the excess implications in the event of a claim.

8. Roadworthy
All vehicles must be in a roadworthy condition, as stipulated by the authorities.

9. Vehicle ownership
Only vehicles registered in your/your spouse or Company name can be insured on your policy or others residing with you, on a personal policy.

10. Usage
Vehicles can be used for business or private use and must be insured accordingly.

11. Excess
This is the first amount payable in the event of a loss. In certain instances, the insured can opt for a voluntary excess which will be payable up and above the standard excess and thus reducing the monthly premium.

12. Cellular phones, Laptops, Ipads and Camera’s etc
Must be insured separately (all risks) and we must be informed when you upgrade or replace the phone. We will require their make, model, serial and IMEI number (for cell phones). Except in the case where you have an Executive policy.

13. General
Optional Extra’s: Car hire and excess waiver cover is available under the Motor section. Accidental, Mechanical & electrical breakdown cover is available under the House Contents section and Accidental Damage to Machinery is available under the Building section. Except in the case of an Executive Policy. Public liability can be extended to R10,000,000 and Personal Accident cover and Legal Costs and Expenses cover is also available

If in doubt - please contact me. I am here to assist and guide you in order to make quite certain you are correctly insured and protected.

Santam Increase in Power Surge Excesses...

POWER SURGE AND ELECTRICITY GRID FAILURE OR INTERRUPTION COVER UPDATES EFFECTIVE 1 JUNE 2023

The last couple of months have been a period of immense challenges for our country. We have seen high levels of load shedding, which impacts our daily lives. The country’s power utility has reassured us that it is working hard to protect our electricity grid by balancing supply and demand in a controlled, risk managed manner. Within this environment we want to provide you with clarity on your cover, cover changes and tips on how to reduce your risk.

Power Surge cover
Load shedding, the temporary switching off of power supply in a scheduled and controlled manner, in itself, is not explicitly covered by insurance policies. However, it does result in the frequent switching on of electricity supply to your home and, depending on the quality of the network and the components thereof, it could cause power surge that damages your electronic items. Subject to the electricity grid failure or interruption exclusion noted below, Santam continues to provide cover for power surge damage, including after load shedding, if selected on your policy.

During the last 12 months, our power surge claims have however increased by around 50%, and more than 200% over the last 3 years. To ensure the sustainability of this power surge cover, with effect from 1 June 2023, the following comes into effect:

1. You will have a compulsory excess of R2500 when claiming for any power surge, mechanical, electrical, or electronic damage, or
accidental damage to fixed machinery.
2. The following will be excluded from our power surge cover:

- Power surge damage that occurs as a result of switching on electricity, following electricity grid failure or interruption.

SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU REDUCE OR EVEN ELIMINATE YOUR RISK OF LOSS DUE TO POWER SURGE:
• It is best to unplug your devices when the power has been switched off. After power has been restored to your premises, it
should be safe to plug them back in again. In an electricity grid failure or interruption scenario, this is especially important.
• Surge arrestors or surge protection devices may provide protection, depending on the type of surge experienced. The
following should be considered:
- Any device should come with a warranty of at least 5 years, for which you should receive an installation certificate.
- Any device should protect against over voltage, under voltage, multiple strikes and lightning surge.

Remember to check your policy to confirm your power supply covers, including their insured amounts. You can select, reduce or
increase your power surge cover options at any time, with the resultant impact on your premium.
