Tucked away in Gillitts is a place that proves you donโt have to travel far to find nature.
Iphithi Nature Reserve is a 12-hectare urban nature reserve featuring wetlands, woodland, grassland, forest, a stream and a tranquil dam, with pathways winding through the different habitats.

What was once an area overrun by invasive trees and neglected vegetation was transformed by local residents into a thriving wildlife sanctuary. Today, the reserve provides a home for an incredible variety of plants and wildlife, including bushbuck, blue duiker, mongoose, birds, butterflies and the endangered Kloof Frog.
Itโs a place to walk, birdwatch, explore, enjoy a picnic or simply slow down and reconnect with nature.
And itโs a reminder of what a community can achieve when people take responsibility for protecting the spaces around them.
