Constantine the Great, the first Roman Emperor to embrace Christianity, founder of Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), and one of the most influential figures in Western civilization, he was born in Naissus, Dardania (Today is the land between Kosovo and Serbia)
His father, Flavius Constantius, was an Illyrian.
He, too, came from Illyrian lands.
It fills me with pride to know that such a turning point in world history, the Christianization of the Roman Empire, the birth of Byzantium, the shaping of modern Europe, began with someone from Illyria.
Illyria gave the world more than warriors. It gave it visionaries. Emperors. History makers.
As Albanian i am very proud of our Illyrian origin.
