A rare encounter between 2 different whale species! 🐋

The Pacific Whale Foundation Australia research team captured the moment a Southern Right Whale encountered two Humpback Whales.

The Southern Right Whale is listed as endangered, with fewer than 300 understood to travel along Australia's east coast.

Hervey Bay is at the northern limit of their range and there hasn’t been one spotted in the bay in over 5 years, making this a very important record.

The team collected drone images to asses the whale’s body condition and photographs to help identify the individual.

📸 Research activities conducted under appropriate state and federal permits and following animal ethics approval. Drone pilots carry a CASA remote pilots license.

Of all the animals in the Australian bush, none are quite as paradoxical as the Platypus. They are iconic, yet notoriously elusive. Famous, yet frantically shy. For many wildlife enthusiasts, seeing a wild Platypus is the ultimate prize - a testament to patience, stealth, and being in the right place at the right time.

While they are notoriously difficult to find, they aren't impossible. You just need to know the "tell".

Hint: It's all in the bubbles... 🫧

We’re being "Mugged" (but in a good way) 🐋🎥

Have you ever been held "hostage" by a 40-ton humpback? In the whale world, we call this a "Mugging."

It happens when whales approach our vessel within 100m. By law, we have to cut the engines and wait until they move on. They aren't aggressive - they're just incredibly curious giants checking us out. 💙

POV: You’re on this boat with Pacific Whale Foundation Australia. What's your reaction?

If you are looking for the ultimate nature escape, this itinerary links the "Big Four" regions into one seamless journey.
