Our dedicated group of volunteers are very passionate about promoting the Whitsundays via The Volunteer Cruise Ship Ambassador Program, coordinated through Tourism Whitsundays.
The Volunteer Cruise Ship Ambassadors Program was created in 2004 as an initiative of the Airlie Beach Chamber of Commerce. The program was established by Judi and Keith Dunn who managed the program for the first 10 years. Five years ago, Brian Richardson took the reins and recently the program has come to sit under the umbrella of Tourism Whitsundays coordinated by their Information Services Coordinator Tracey Tyler.
The sole purpose of the Cruise Ship Ambassadors is to give each and every passenger arriving by cruise ship a warm personal welcome and βbon voyageβ on their departure.
Every Cruise Ambassador has a passion for where we live, along with what we have to offer in The Whitsundays and will take pride in telling anyone thatβs prepared to listen.
The Volunteer Cruise Ship Ambassador Program is unique in that, to the best of our knowledge, there is no other program such as ours that meet and greet on a one on one basis and stay to say farewell to all cruise ship passengers. We consistently have 15-20 volunteers at every event & we have fun!
The Program has a number of supporters throughout the business community that see and or receive a direct or indirect benefit from the cruise ship visitors through out the Whitsundays. We appreciate all of our supporters very much and are always grateful for their support.
Our program started out with only 5 ships in 2004, this number has grown by well over 1,200% to welcoming 60 in 2019.
Our group of loyal Cruise Ship Ambassadors have been there every step of the way ensuring each cruise ship visitor receives a warm welcome to The Whitsundays, with a friendly smile, encouraging them to return and visit us again in the future.
