A few more photographs of the Bribie Island Birdlife Tour.

Although our migrating birds have left, there is still plenty to explore bird-wise, and the walk on the mudflat always has some hidden surprises.

We were all in awe of the tiny Red-capped Plovers πŸ₯°

We had a wonderful day on the Bribie Island Birdlife Tour today. I had such a lovely couple with me from Cleveland who wanted to explore the island with a private tour guide.

I managed to make a short video of the Australian Pelicans feeding.

It was great fun watching them getting their breakfast sorted 😊

🧐 Australian Pelicans feed primarily by using their massive, highly sensitive bills and expandable gular pouches as a scoop net. They can forage alone but often hunt cooperatively in flocks, herding schools of fish into shallow water before snapping them up.

They employ a few key steps to capture and eat their prey:

Scooping: They plunge their open beaks into the water to scoop up fish, crustaceans, and occasionally other small aquatic animals.

Draining: Once the prey is caught, the pelican pulls its bill tight against its breast to squeeze the water out of the pouch, leaving only the catch.

Swallowing: They throw their heads back and manipulate the fish so it slides down head-first, avoiding getting caught on the spines or fins.🧐

It is going to be an exciting season again πŸ₯°. Lots of fish around at the moment so they time it perfectly every year ☺️

What an amazing Kangaroo Tour today..........so many encounters 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘

The area was really flooded after the downpour over the last few days. Apart from wet feet πŸ˜‚, the Kangaroos were really out and about in the open spaces, drying out and enjoying a bit of sunshine.

At the moment, there are many females with young Joeys in their pouches, as well as many teenagers. They seem to recover well after the 2022 floods. We also encountered a few older alpha male groups and a few potential newcomers who are going to take over the alpha male role.

I am sure the hoppers are happy with the upcoming dry and sunny days β˜€οΈ, so am I, although we needed this rain πŸ˜….

On the Kangaroos, Mangroves and the Ocean Tour, we visit Osprey House Environment Centre it gives you a sneak preview of all the other interesting wildlife we can expect in our beautiful backyard.

The volunteers do an amazing job to answer all your additional questions. 😊

This time of the year is the best to visit, as Gorge and Hope, our dedicated Osprey couple, are preparing for a new offspring this year. πŸ₯°

🌿✨ Another beautiful day exploring the stunning Bellthorpe Rainforest! ✨🌿

After a very dry wet season, the recent light showers have brought new life to the forest, keeping the creeks flowing and the waterfalls looking their best. It's a wonderful time to experience this hidden gem of the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

I had the pleasure of hosting a lovely couple from Perth. While many of my guests come from overseas, I've recently welcomed more visitors from around Australia who are discovering the unique nature experiences on offer right here in South East Queensland. 😊

Whether you're visiting Brisbane for work, a sporting event, a conference, or a short getaway, why not take a break from the city and immerse yourself in nature?

On our kangaroo tour, we found some very cute tracks of the kangaroos. Usually, I find plenty of tracks of their hind legs, but we found some cute five-toe front paw tracks as well.

🧐Kangaroos have five toes on their forepaws, similar to humans’ hands, which they use to hold food and grooming. They also use their forepaws and tail to move more slowly than when hopping, hence the term "walking". The kangaroo can’t move its hind legs independently, unlike humans, which is why it uses its forepaws and tail to assist in walking.🧐
